Ok, I dont say this loosely......my wife in her role as a consultant to medical practitioners has impeccable resources available to her. There is NO known successful cure for tinnitus available to practitioners of allopathic medicine. No doctor will prescribe to you a medicine or treatment for the cure of tinnitus. There is NO product available from any pharmecutical company that can cure tinnitus. There is no known, proven medical procedure available to cure tinnitus. If there was , I can tell you, I would have already had contact with it.

I have it, too long working in heavy industry. I find I'm just not aware of it most of the time so it does not intrude in day to day living but sometimes for what ever reason you become aware of the noise in your head. At least it's not voices I'm hearing.

get your doctor to do the paper work for a hearing test and you should be able to get some free hearing aids i find that helps . the way it helps is that you will hear sounds that are around you that you may not have heard before and that seems to mask the sounds of the tinnitus

Hmmm.... advancing years give some relief from tinnitus as your hearing declines

Glad to hear that. We recently moved full time from close to Perth airport to the country & now I have it. I worked with Jet Engines for 38 years so guess that didn't help, but the quiet at night sounds more like a distant heavy diesel engine thrumming in my left ear. Did mention it to my GP, she says I'm just getting old.

    Hi,
Mine is a high pitched whistle, like a mozzy but up an octave or 2.
Most of the time it is around 2 or 3 out of 10 as far as it affects my ability to do stuff. If I'm stressed and frustrated with (say) the computer not doing what I want it can get up to a 5 and is a significant impediment.
I can get some relief with a 200mm length of plastic tube and gently blow warm breath over each ear hole for a minute or two. That will tone it down to a tolerable level if it is driving me nuts.
A hot shower running over the ears and then blocking all sound with a handful of soapy suds over the ear while finishing the shower can some times stop it completely for an hour or two.
I very seldom get it when out walking in the bush, and after having it for about 5 years continuously at work, find now (retired) I can some times go days with no noise at all.
No idea why, probably stress, I suspected high voltage in computer screens for a long time, but had difficulty in proving a direct and repeatable correlation.
I believe every case is different, but the tube, or soap, or walking may offer some relief to some one else.
    Hope so anyway.
    cheers

When I went to see the saw bones about my tinnitus all he said to me was "get used to it because you own it now, that'll be $69.00 thanks"

I've had tinnitis for most of my life. I am 78% deaf in right ear and 73% deaf in left ear according to the Hearing Specialist. As others have said there is no cure. I find that it is louder when things are quieter.

By the way, it is more noticeable when someone mentions it so Thanks.

I've suffered about ten years now.
I do get some temporary relief when in mountain areas.
Sudden changes of pressure brought about by driving up and down do help.
Maybe sessions in a divers decompression chamber could work.....?
