Well it would have been more enjoyable to watch if they simply showed what happened instead of the, "Here we are just driving along - what's that? - a MAYDAY call??? Thunderbirds are go! Okay, we're here now. (Cut to interview.) Let's look really serious - oh dear - it's raining. (Cut to interview . . . where's my cape?) Now the car is right way up . . . WOOHOO! Floor it mate! Yes, this radio in the Disco is working without an antenna! (Time for another interview.) Now, where's that sunset we'll drive off into?"

I guess you can blame my cynicism on being hype-weary as there are a lot of "interpretive" productions out there. It reminded me of My Kitchen Rules, you know: "And the souffle was, like, crooked, and I'm, like, oh my God."
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.

It is a film crew after all, I thought it was tactful considering

UHF's do work with a busted off aerial, and the lack of range would not of been an issue, seeing as they were next to each other

I wouldn't know about the TV show, I don't watch TV......unless its the occasional Dr Phil whilst having lunch at home

It was good, showed some relevance, maybe the Cooper STT bit, but they are sponsored and one must do what it takes to keep the income streaming in

Davo is right. If that "roll-over" operation showed this way, there would be no sarcasm.

concentrating on the wrong bit there.....

what should have been a simple dot point fed video on howto do a recovery and a tow out was turned into a mini drama....

the decision to leave the wrong gear bit in should have been backed with a bit of the old "lessons learnt, heres what I would now consider differently" as it is the message seems to be "****damnit, gear down an mash the noise"

Given that the pootrol was heavily modified (read the buildup of it), add to that he states he has lockers and crawler gears, why did he need to go charging up the hill?
I don't have an issue with the recovery, but the way it was shown like it was something off a current affairs or something just annoys me slightly.
One thing that surprised me was the lack of "Oh look a broken landrover" quips, expected a few of those.

Why do rover Prima Donna's always make out the victim?

Have you ever dragged a dead vehicle up a steep track? Completely different to a vehicle with some drive

No, it's not some bland instructional you'd expect to see at a training day in the armed services, it's for entertainment purposes aswell

And in reality, in the hills of Vic, it's likely you would hear a call on the UHF just like this, I've answered to random calls on the radio, stopped for people randomly on the side of remote tracks

Whether it is real or staged, you have to remember the 4WDA crew are out for the business of video production, they have a DVD attached to each of their mag (well they used to) so they would film in accordance with that process, multiple cameras, in car, etc. They do use GoPros, so sitting one in a vehicle would only take a few seconds, couple that with some stock footage (remember they were there for 4-1/2 hrs so plenty of video) and some work in the editing suite, and you have another segment for the DVD.
The 'victim' would only need to sign a release and it's all legit.

As has been said they aren't in the process of making training videos they are for entertainment/infomercials generally.

I'm not saying anything like that. But the average 4WDA DVD that features any sort of landrover is normally overflowing with crap like that.

Yep, also been the one in the dead vehicle. No lockers, no reduction gears, we did it nice and slowly and we got home just fine.
