I was lucky enough to meet him briefly in around '91 when I was a kid with a passion for his music...we lived not far from Taylor's Arm where the original Pub With No Beer is, and my parents were providing some of the catering for a big do there which included unveiling a memorial to the recently departed Gordon Parsons, the writer of the song.
Both Slim and Shorty Ranger were there and I met them and had my photo taken with them.
Was a big moment for a ten year old kid to meet their biggest musical star....

Just off topic for a bit, I had a mate from the Navy , by the name of Huey Aitken, bought himself a dairy farm just up the road from the pub. Lost contact years ago, don't suppose you know of him? Bob

The thing was, no one had two bob to rub together (compared to today with multiple cars, TV's, X box, latest gizmo's etc.), so all was 'normal'.
Interesting when compared to today, back then dad went to work, mum stayed home and looked after 'the household' including the kids and all was generally good.

Today both parents work, pay heaps for child care, kids run riot/have no direction and families have every material thing in the world or are suckered into interest debt for all the essential crap they want as opposed to need................ We might have been poorer financially but not in real life.

May not have been Slim but my brother and I got the wind up (78 rpm only) gramophone to play with when the (second hand) radiogram arrived. Memories of Indian Love call, Put Another Nickel In The Nickelodian, Goon Shows etc. in the back yard. Gawd I feel old ...............

The problem is there are too many things now for us young ones to give attention too, and we all need to keep up with the jones's.

I cant remember the exact name but I really like that song "set 'em up again, I think I'll have another round......"

I'll never knock the youngsters, got a couple myself. They are OK, just far too much temptation nowadays, too easy to get into trouble. Get to know them, they are just like we were, really. Here is the first Slim song I remember, not his best, but a classic. Bob

How long ago?
I was still a young fella when we left over 20 years ago but dad used to knock around there back in the '70s as well.
We lived over near Bowraville out in the bush kinda tucked in between South Arm and Missabotti.
Great place to be as a kid....and I still miss it!
