The rabbits were all head shot so maybe it liked the meat a bit tenderised.

I have seen a feral cat up there which was at least a metre long. As usual, when I don't have a rifle nearby.
Y'know , this catch cry is so common.

    ....wished I'd had my camera....

    ....wished I'd had my rifle.....

....when I called my mate/brother/ sister/ uncle to witness it , it had gone.

So, what I'm saying is , to promote the truth of all these claims all one needs is hard evidence.

    Why is it always lacking?

Ever tried to move faster than a cat in a hurry?
Now let's say chenz has his rifle or his camera. He's not expecting to see this cat. No disrespect to chenz but chances are by the time he's brought either device into a suitable shooting position and confirmed its in a condition to be operated correctly, I.e its on, loaded, cocked, etc, I'd wager snagglepuss has moved on somewhere. This leaves you looking for a wild black cat at night.
See why this might be difficult?

OMG Rambles - I agree with you!

Out of all these hundreds of sightings over decades, why hasn't there been a single photo, video or carcass to categorically (see what I did there. ) verify these claims?

Surely they don't live forever too???

Surely we all know that the sightings are just big - sometimes very big - feral cats. Nothing like the mythical puma that has been keeping its secret for decades now.

yes, I understand totally and my post wasn't aimed at Chenz .

thats why I included the other items in my comments.

I have seen and heard some interesting things in the bush and all I say is "I saw/heard something interesting last night.....it sounded like/looked like.....but I couldn't confirm what it was..."

So I shrug my shoulders and walk on without guessing or letting my imagination run amok.

I am a skeptic and that makes it very hard for me to accept anything without binding proof.

One was on a night drive to York (East of Perth). We were chatting away when something coloured dirty white and as big as a Labrador ran across the road and bounded to the top af a strainer post on the side of the road. The post would have been about 1.8 meters tall and the "cat" had no probs jumping to the top. It stopped to look at us and we it in the spotlight. It was quite shaggy too. Of course as I opened the door to attempt to grab a rifle it took off.
Another time (and quite near where Andy_D110 probably worked) a mate and I were "stalked" for about 1km by something weighty enough to snap some pretty damn thick twigs. This was at dusk and due to my mate cr@ppin himself we beat a hasty retreat to the vehicle which was on the top of a hill. From the top we could hear something growling (catlike) from some dense scrub and we could see green eyes reflected in the spotlight but no one was game to get in any closer. We did not camp out that night!

Sounds like my mother in law. Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Believe me, I'm more than a little skeptical of most things myself. I just know how difficult cats can be to keep track of.
