Driving regularly between Perth & Kalgoorlie, I find that almost nobody waves between Perth & about Southern Cross - then you'll get quite a few people wave between Southern Cross & Coolgardie. Between Coolgardie & Kalgoorlie, nobody waves unless they know your car.

Head off across the Nullarbor and quite a lot wave. Leads me to the opinion that those who wave between Southern Cross & Coolgardie have either just come across the paddock or about to head over that way.

As far as Landrovers go - I get the occasional wave from D3's / D4's, noticeably from those which have obviously been set up for touring - virtually never from the plain "soccer mum" types running round Perth. From D1's / D2's in Perth - I'd say only from those who might recognize my vehicle as being someone from this forum (and if you saw it, there's a chance that you might know whose it is ). In Kalgoorlie, I get quite a few waves from various model Disco's - some of them know me, some don't.

Range Rovers - never had a wave from one. Defenders - never had a wave from one unless it's someone I know.

Who do I wave to - any model Disco that look a little different to "soccer mums", especially if they look as though they might get "dirty" or otherwise travel outside the metro area a bit, Range Rovers if they wave first (hasn't happened yet ) and Defenders - only if it's someone I recognize.

I've had a couple of good enthusiastic waves from D4's lately either travelling to or around Kalgoorlie - one of them could have been almost a mirror image of my own. I've noticed on a couple of trips recently though that I've got more waves from Jeep drivers than Landrovers.

Definitely see (and give) a lot more waves in the country than in Perth though. ANY LR wave in Perth is a rare event - except for someone in a nice looking green D2 who recently pulled behind me at a set of lights in the centre of the city, bipped the horn, waved, and took a photo of the rear end of mine and posted it on here within about half an hour of spotting me ...
    Cheers .........

Everyone waves to you on the sunshine coast.
They pull out in front of you, where you are forced to lock up all 4 wheels and they give the big wave and yell out "THANKS MATE FOR LETTING ME IN"

As a recent Defender owner I have been rigorous in my attempts to acknowledge and wave at other Deefa owners. Sometimes vigorous, sometimes pull alongside if travelling in same direction on multillane roads and cruise together, swap poistion. Hand or similar through windscreen or simple ninety degree arm wave of window. In my district there are about 10 deefas that regularly pass each other. 99% of the time you get a wave back or they've also already started waving(hand, arm out the door etc). I've never had a Disco or Freelander, Rangie driver wave towards me so I presumed they didn't know about the ettiquette. (This is the case we're I'd rather not waste a wave if they don't know what thy're driving...) Having said that I'd say that 99% of Disco, Freelander or Rangie owners on my district drive them because of 'status' rather than a love of the marque's name or history.

Your on the money, when driving my defender I almost always got a wave from series and defenders but only the rangies and discos that were off-roaders would wave back (not that I would try if they worn't).

Oh and to the bloke in the 130 in the blue mountains, nice rig
Yeah Muppet, I've seen him on three occasions. First time was about four months ago tearing up the mountain, then again about two weeks ago at Leura Woollies car park which was funny - I was wheeling the trolley back to the disco when I spotted him reversing out of his spot. I start giving him an enthusiastic thumbs up when I realised I wasn't standing next to my disco but behind a Volvo V70. I got the "I'm not waving back to you" look - then I realised my error. I took two steps sideways and gave him another which was acknowledged.

Third time was Monday just gone, We pulled up along side each other, I waved 1st, he waved back. I followed him up the mountain but lost him at Lawson after getting stuck behind traffic.

He definitely likes to get to places in a hurry and I hope he didn't get caught by the camera that was parked at Wentworth Falls that night.

    Bloody nice rig indeed!

PS: I try to wave to everybody.
    Cheers,

    Sean

Defenders only and with a degree of enthusiasm. If travelling with the wife and kids they get five waves. Being in ACT I get waved fairly regularly but only from other Defenders and never from anything else. I travel regularly to Thredbo and always get waved heading that way as well, including from someone driving a Series 1 in Cooma who I have seen a couple of times.

Have tried to wave to non-Defender LRs, but never had a response. I've found Disco drivers usually aren't even looking at the Defender, let alone gesticulating.

Defender drivers get the biggest wave I can give. I've usually got the window down, so it's an out-the-window wave...

I've gotten more from D2s than anyone else.
A couple of D3/D4s, one RRC, and I get mixed responses from Defender drivers.
None from the modern rangies or freelanders.
Most enthusiastic response I got was from a D1, arm out the window wave and peace sign
