Gotta love how some people can describe it as 'simply defending themselves'.

Don't forget that Assad is a competent western well-educated leader. He is a lot better than any middle eastern politician or despot who might replace him. He recognises and protects his Christian minority and Christian women don't have to wear the head bag. Over a million Syrian Christians have fled to Lebanon to get away from the rebels.

Can't blame the Israelis for bombing etc. Hizbollah and Hamas who are nothing less than terrorists and mass murderers.

    Yes, defending themselves!

They sit on a sliver of land not much bigger than the ACT and cop a flogging from all around in the form of terrorist attacks and missile strikes. If they don't react swiftly and surely to any attack they are history. I reckon they've been particularly patient with most of the countries around them over the past 65 years or so.

People are whinging about them holding on to the Golan heights; well it was never given back after the six day war due to Syria constantly shelling Northern Israel from that area back in '67.

If they ever got serious and went totally on the offensive they'd sort out every one of the countries around them. Imagine the response from all the hand-wringers then!

By sort out - you mean? Isreal are doing it wrong, behaving like those they condemn - persecuting to prevent their own persecution. Its not a good look. They can sort out their own country... swallow some pride and give some back to the Palestinians.

If the Israelies are Gods chosen people , how come God gave all there neighbors the Gas and Oil ...

You need to stop smoking funny weed and study the region before making ill informed statements such as this. What planet are you living on with your Lotz-A-Landies, surely not this one. By the way it's only by the U.S. almost begging Israel during the first Gulf War that Baghdad doesn't glow in the dark at night following an unprovoked missile attack.

I think they all should set aside a time every day to thank God for their blessings. That should solve their problems. Or perhaps they aren't fervent enough in their beliefs?

I always find it very disturbing when people find I.D.F. action against a perceived threat as an act of aggression when most U.N. members are asking for support for the opposition. The Israelis are always portrayed as the aggressor, you would not think they have lived in that country for over 3000 years. Sounds a bit like our Aboriginals, by the way have you said sorry lately.

As Bob said the Russians would have known, Russia is a signatory to the Chemical weapons agreement and according to a part of the Russian press there is a assault team in the Russian naval base in Syria standing by to intercept any transfer of chemical weapons to what they would consider a wrong third party.
Assad if he used them would have done so to prove that the west is not coming to help so as to demoralise the rebels after two years of fighting but using chemical weapons too much would upset everyone including the russians.
