NSW P plater - Prohibited Vehicles Exemption

I have just looked up the James Taylor (Landrover,Range Rover official Historian)book which lists the 1983 Range Rover as having 132 bhp@ 5000rpm for the 8:13 to 1 comp motor and the 9:35 to 1 comp motor having 125bhp @ 4000rpm they are official figures,that,I think is less than the Old Holden 202cubic inch motor of the late 1960's and the 4 litre Falcon motor was more powerfull try and get the official figures for the mid 80's Toyota Land Cruiser and the Nissan Patrol then approach the head office of RTA or the manager of your I local branch,if not try your local friendly State MP.

I have looked up the specs and sent the figures to the exemptions unit, I replied to their email and asked what the grounds of a "moderate performance prohibited vehicle is".

I will try and take it further, if I can't it won't stop me driving it, but I'll keep some figures on me to show the police if I get pulled up and then I can reason with them!!

If they have half a brain they'll realize I'm not the threat to anyone on the roads.

Will, the rules are there for a reason, and yes, there are far more vehicles not on the prohibited list that will outrun, outbrake (and out 'safety') an old V8 RR, so in many ways it's flawed legislation. However it is what it is, an if you're caught driving it you could do $700odd and lose your licence.

If you can provide a reason to drive it that the Authority will accept, then happy days, but if not don't risk swapping your licence for a pair of sneakers..
It's not about having 'half a brain' to decide who is and who isn't a threat on the roads, it's about applying the law (dumb as it is) equally, and you've accepted a licence agreeing to abide by those laws.

Yeah that's fair enough, I wouldn't drive it often though, basically just for 4WDing on the weekends, my mate has a D1 V8 that he used for that and never got bothered, however it may be different as RRC's didn't really come with many diesels so its fair to assume that it's a V8.

Could always tell them it's a 'Project Iceberg' diesel V8 ;) though it would be the only one on the road anywhere if it was!

Maybe some 'TURBO DIESEL' stickers and avoid RBT's by not driving at night... And don't give them a reason to pull me over.

But I'm gonna try and make it work!

However I'll buy the car as the price is right and I want it ;)

the strange part about this is that it was legal for my son to learn to drive our 86 rangie on his L plates with a licensed driver beside him, but once on P's no driving

The laws are just too broad. My little 1.6 turbo Peugeot 308 wagon is banned but my 2+ ton 2.7 turbo diesel D3 is fine despite being much bigger, much heavier, much faster and with a higher centre of gravity etc etc. doesn't make any sense.

Well I've found out the a 253 Holden V8 fits into the "moderate performance" category, so I'm absolutely spewing about being fobbed off. :censored: :censored: :censored:

The 253 has 125kW, up from the Rangies 118kW, and it is a lot lighter vehicle, also the Rangie has all wheel disc brakes and constant 4WD. The 253 is also 4.2 L, up from the Rangies 3.5. I can see NO reason you shouldn't be allowed a Rover V8.

So I will be taking this further!! Idiot bureaucrats aren't going to get the better of me!!
