    Best Bush Maps

    Hi

Not sure if this is the right forum for this, but it didn't seem to fit anywhere else.

I was wondering if anyone had purchased this map and if it is a good as the spiel ;-)

    Thanks

its rubbish, well i thought so.
no real detail unless you just want to look for a location.
the boiling billy publications are a better investment. nsw camping, treks close to sydney, then just get the toppo maps for the area your heading.

Like Liam, I bought it, looked at it, then bought other maps that are actually useful. I'll sell my as-new copy for half price if you really want it!

With the last revision date of March 2007 it sounds like it may be sourced from the Geoscience Australia (government) data sets.

At that price you are basically paying only for the DVD as the data is freely available on the web (assuming you have a big fat internet connection).

Here is the link to the Geoscience Australia downloads, which were available in ecw (jpg), pdf and kml formats.

On a related note - below is an email I got from Geoscience Australia early this year in response to a query about their mapping products.

The response reads like copy and paste, but is still quite useful

(apologies for the lack of formatting - the new lines got borked as part of my copy and paste)

Thank you for your query regarding the updating of the 250k products. We have an extensive ongoing upgrade programme for our spatial topographic data holdings within Geoscience Australia. Unfortunately in recent years these upgrades have only been available internally to government stakeholders. This financial year 2012-2013 we plan to release at least 10 australia-wide upgraded themes with improved spatial and attribute accuracy as well as updated to recent high quality satellite/aerial photography. These themes will be generally related to transport, cultural, hydrology and infrastructure. The release of upgraded themes will continue in the coming years. In the last few years we have also updated about a tenth of the paper map series and these maps will soon become available in digital form (ecw). The maps upgraded have been in areas of large infrastructure growth/decline. Currently we have a few methods of obtaining our data. The map connect services which allow free spatial data downloads and the ability to customise your own map in pdf format. MapConnect - Geoscience Australia If you are a GIS/Spatial professional you may be interested in our rest services. This will be the fastest method to get updated data products/themes. topography As well as our pre-packaged Natmap Raster 2008 and Geodata Products through our products search process. Product Search - Geoscience Australia In the coming year we hope to establish an online web mapping service equivalent to Natmap products, to provide quick updates to our high quality map products. This map services will be a WMS which should allow it to feed into applications such as google earth. A beta version of this service is currently being testing internally. As new upgraded data themes become available these will feed into the self-customised map production web service therefore allowing users to generate there own updated map products in their area of interest. This service will complement the High Quality Cartographic Products generated for the NATMAP program.

The Memory-map.com.au Topo maps are the best I've ever seen. I have the NSW ones and they are well worth the money, especially if you have a tablet computer (ipad etc), otherwise you can install it on your computer and then print out any relevant ones.

    I highly recommend them.
