Thread: URGENT! Need to borrow some chains

I've got a set you can borrow Alan. Only problem is there in Sunbury and I don't start work until 3pm so can't drop off. If you have no luck you can come past and pick them up. It's pretty easy to get to the Hume from here. The size I have would fit your wheels if needed.

On a side note: check if a 4wd needs to carry them this time of year.

Being a QLDer, I'm probably not the best to offer advice, but I understand 4WDs are note required to have chains.

ALL vehicles entering the alpine areas of Victoria are required to carry chains and fit them when instructed.

You will need to carry chains.
You can buy parking tickets a bit cheaper online here Mount Hotham - Resort Entry instead of paying up the top. My recommendation is to keep going and have lunch at the Dinner Plain Pub and then return to Bright. This way you can have a play in the snow when it comes and you don't have to pay for entry. The system is "Suppose" to log you in and out of the village. It gives you enough time to pass through for no cost. Fines are big and plentiful and not always correct!
You will be able to see the devastation that was the Harrietville fire and the desecration that is the clean up. Don't forget to get some Alpine diesel in bright before you head up. I recommend the BP in Bright. There will be snow on Feathertop and Bogong and if lucky enough at Hotham to build a snowman Hotham Heights weather forecast, Bureau of Meteorology Warnings & rainfall

True in NSW, but not true in Vic as others have said:

Although two interesting gotcha for the NSW fields:

"Chains may also be required in certain weather conditions" - so if you don't have them in a 4wd then you can't go though, whereas a 2wd with snow chains could.

Should have went to Aldi last saturday. $40 for diamond pattern 4wd chains. There is always next year about this time.
