    I was a believer

Hi all out there in landrover land, I am posting this as a buyer beware as much as winge ( I am a pom!)
In early 2011 my mate and I both bought new Defender 90's and by and large have had very few issues, my mate less than me.
Corrosion around the windscreen rubber, from new.
My issues were a sagging hood lining corrosion on the mudflap mounts and window catches but most alarming of all the entire drivers side bodywork did not align properly, the packing from the chasis was under size and the body work had sagged directly behind the drivers door!! leading to a badly fitting door and a seal that didn't work and a cracked seam on the roof.
I use the car for my work and although I had been aware of these issues I felt safe in the knowledge tha I had a factory warranty for three years.
After taking my car in for a seatbelt recall I sought to have my issues rectified. Then started the pantomime! no wonder I waited two years to make a claim

!. Six weeks for two reports to be done, corrosion and build
2.no contact from the dealer, unless I chased them
3.ten weeks after, called in for repair, all good apologies and promises!!!
4.two weeks pass, no contact, I chase them up
    5. no work started, no contact, I chase them up
    6. Service man compains that my car is giving him a headache
7.Service manager say landrover will not honour the warranty as i have had it serviced at Tecno british and that there is no corroision report LR charge you $120 per annum! to insure their product! also because I have had the car for two years I therefore must be happy with the bodywork I should put up with it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
8.Told by LR helpline that if I had supported the network that the network woud support me
9.Lr warranty managers can not be influenced by helpline but take direction from the dealer
    10. The dealer (in the valley, bne)has hindered me from the get go, the very first question they asked was "where do you have your car serviced"
I have now spent many hours on the phone, very upset, at the lack of support from all landrover personnel and posting this is is an outlet for me, an extremely passionate LR devotee....... not for much longer, thanks for reading..

P.S. Three of my mates that have bought new Landys and no one has been made aware, upon purchase, that if you do not have at least a corrosion report done every year then any corrosion claims will be null and void.

P.P.S. MY 90 only has 24,000 k's on it even now

    Okay then -

    - If your vehicle has been serviced by a licensed mechanic then it makes no difference who does the work.
    - Get out your warranty statement in your owner's manual and read through that. Check the corrosion warranty fine print.
    - Warranty is normally there for coverage of defects in material or workmanship. Ask them to explain how the undersized packing from the factory is not either of these and what influence the signage out the front of the service centre has on this fault.
    - When you become aware of an issue, raise it with the manufacturer straight away. The continued use of a product where a fault could lead to greater damage is grounds for warranty refusal.
    - Dealers get very little out of warranty work. They get reimbursed from the manufacturer at a reduced rate from retail and will get paid according to flat rate schedules.

Land Rover should have a look at your claim, don't allow it to be dismissed on the excuse that as it was serviced elsewhere that warranty is void. Be prepared for some hurt though as you have delayed in reporting the fault. Be prepared to accept a compromised offer where you will pick up the tab for some level of cost.

A little premature that at this stage.

If it goes down that path it'll become a letter of the warranty conditions case and if something has been done that can get the manufacturer out of it, then he'll get nothing. Just something to consider, that's all.

Though as part of the process of negotiation with the dealer/LR they may need to be reminded that manufacturers warranty can be overridden by statutory warranty provisions and that you would be prepared to follow that route if necessary.

Thanks mate, I now know all of the above are true and correct, however with a very busy life and a fair dose nievety I thought that LR would be happy to help in this situation the car has had an easy life and none of the issues have worsened, LR are not prepared to accept a third party corrosion report, I have offered, i feel that this is a policy put in place to manipulate customers into an unnesesary service regime, if a car has corrosion at any time in it's warranty period it should be covered especially as the areas at fault are well known problem areas on newer Defenders. How much more customer loyalty would be generated instead of all this negativety each case were decided on good old common sense and a reasonable dose of goodwill, the service from the dealer has been woefull, uncommunicative and obstructive to say the least, spend less on adverts and more on customer satisfaction, spead the word!!
    Thanks once again.

Do as digger has stated go to consumer affairs.

We are in the same boat as you, actually it's so similar it's scarey, good luck.

As above also they cannot refuse a warranty claim unless they can prove that the issue was caused by someone or something else(ie) where you get the car serviced.

Oh and as with you, this will be our last Land Rover.

    Baz.
    Cheers Baz.

Im a pretty loyal customer if I am treated with honesty. This is my first Landy. If the dealer doesnt treat me with honesty and I feel like all they are trying to do it rip me off Ill be picking another brand in a few years. Ive been less than impressed so far and they dont even have my money yet.

I went to test drive a 90 prior to ordering one. I had oranised it over the phone and email with the dealer. Drove the 2 hours to Parramatta, (my closest dealer), arrived at 330 pm to be told that they have parked their only demo in behind some other cars and that I would have to come back another day. Drove the 2 hours home with the ****s.

So now I have ordered it from a different dealer (newcastle) and I STILL havent driven one. I hope I like it.....Otherwise there will be a low km 90 for sale.

I wrote to the manager telling him what hapenned. No reply. If this is the way they have treated me prior to them getting my money I shudder to think how it will be afterwards..... Time will tell, but I am less than impressed so far.

Sorry but what a bunch of lazy ducks the salesman are! When I was working at a dealership if a person wanted to look at the yellow sprotsgirl barina in the corner, we would move 10 cars to free it. As they where a draw car for the girls and it was a SALE! They would chat positive with their friends and boyfriends who would come to look at the ss or rodeo. It sounds to me like those staff are to FAT and only looking for the big commission sales on the Range rovers and disco's.
