A Land Rover to the Dakar ... sort of?

Some of you may know I am entering the Dakar Rally, scheduled to start in Argentina on January 5'th and finish in Chile on January 18'th after passing through Bolivia also. I am in the process of sorting out logistics, including a vehicle for my service crew. I have been planning on hiring a 4x4 in South America but someone asked me tonight why not take my D90? Now there's an idea!

It would be a great way to tie my two passions - rally racing motorcycles and my Land Rovers. It also would be a great opportunity for Land Rover Australia to get on board an adventure and support someone passionate about their product (I only own 5 of them). I was already planning on painting the bike Zermatt Silver to match my MY12 D90.

A nice green oval somewhere would look okay wouldn't it?

So the question is ... does anyone have an "inside line" to someone at LRA in a position to be able to take this up? It's often "who you know, not what you know" with these things.

    Ciao
    John B

Sounds like a Good idea, and if you can get LRA to come to the table all the better!

It may also be worth approaching dealers and independent Landrover parts/service companies, like those in Qld,British Off Road,& M.R.Autos,also there could well be members of the various Land/Range Rover state club that might be willing to sponsor in some way, also AULRO,and then there are the parts/accessory companies I.E. ARB.TJM,REPCO,Lightforce,NARVA,etc.

    Worth a try.

    cheers

Thanks for that. If no-one pops up with an inside line I'll definitely contact them.
Support crew? I have a team manager from Perth coming with me and my mechanic from NZ is coming. I've worked with both a few times, with my mechanic having come across to work with me on a couple of my Australasian Safari projects. That's about as much "on the ground" support as I might be able afford. The support I most need is financial.
    Cheers

Would not hurt to talk to Dwayne at M.R. Auto, Redcliffe. His family have been involved in racing cars for some time, his Father still races classic cars, I believe. It sounds like something they might be interested in, worth a try. Bob

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
