    Spare wheel bonnet mount

    Anybody done a bonnet mounted spare wheel on anything other than a defender on here?

    It's been rattling around my head for a couple of weeks now that using a rear door mount for a disco but on the bonnet would be very logical.

    Obviously the bonnet would need to be braced underneath but just wondering if its been done?

    spare wheel

    I remember driving in thick fog in the 1960's on the A12 in England and having to stop and remove the wheel off the bonnet so I could see the white line on the side of the road as you could not see anything else.
    Sort of reminds me why I emigrated forty years ago and never went back.

    I've never seen it done on anything other than a Series/Defender, but I don't see why it couldn't be done?

    Maybe somebody here has some pictures from a show or something of a Disco with it?

    Only illegal if you break the forward visibility requirements as far as I know.

    See Vehicle Standard (Australian Design Rule 8/00 - Safety Glazing Material) 2006

    Roughly translated you need to be able to see a point on the road in front of you that is 11m in front of the "average" driver's eyes. (see pg 10 of http://www.sa.gov.au/upload/franchis...20vehicles.pdf )

    Given putting a tyre on the bonnet will almost certainly obscure some forward vision, I wonder if (legally, including engineering if required) raising the driver's seating position is an effective workaround?

    Given the tyre sits completely on the bonnet and does not overhang the sides what part of the ADRs are protrusions and projectiles covered by?

    I think with all the laws constantly , changing being up dated , you can't even move a seat upwards without conforming to some ADR .The Insuance Cos. just love mods that they can claim don't comform.
