    Question Simpson in a D1 V8?

Looking at doing the Simpson desert crossing next year in my Disco 1 V8 and was wondering how much fuel would i need to carry?
I have a 120+ litre long range tank and 55l lpg tank.
There will be 3 of us in the vehicle and i have a full length roof rack, how many litres in jerry cans would i need?
    Thanks

from Oodnadatta via Macumba station, I used 1 tank (probably about 80lt) and filled up with 40 litres out there. We did a 640km crossing. I have td5 so use fair bit less, but you wont travel same distance as we did either. Btw I left grumble in low range manual mode most of the time often travelling in 4th low range which is same as second hi.....I personally preferred it that way....not much difference really. Let tyre pressures be your friend out there.

100 litres=100kg weight......work it out yourself....you really need to keep your weight down as much as is humanly possible

ummm yeah we had two petrol landcruisers with us, one a LC200 V8, and the other 4.5lt six, but they were too embarrassed to tell me how much fuel they used. I think they both had 150 or 180 litre tanks with 3-4 jerries on their racks. I have no idea how the rover v8 compares to them....

When we went across we had a TD5 Defender (mine) and a V8 Manual D2 (Also now mine!)

The D2 wasn't too bad, from memory between Birdsville and Mount Dare it used 120-130 litres.. I will see if I can confirm that. (I used 75 by comparison)

However, there is a big difference in economy between a d1 and a d2, especially if the d1 is an auto.

It was pretty soft when we went across and we headed east west.

It also only had 1 person in it.

    - If you can find out how much the above mates used... yours will most likely drink more.

Take 'plastic' fuel containers.... they weigh less than steel ones.

    Sounds like i need alot
Was thinking a straight forward crossing from Birdsville to Mt Dare is around 500km with the V8 using 40l/100km and lpg 50l/100, so i would need 160l of petrol plus safety margin, so my 120l tank plus 60l in jerrys.
    Does that sound about right???
