@V8Ian: A beautiful song OF, my Dad's favourite. So many have tried but missed the mark.
I have to restrict myself a bit with playing it, brings tears every time!

It is amazing how small things from the past continue to haunt us. I grew up in the country, on a farm, and in the small village we had an old style timber and iron country community hall. It had a stage, a supper room, kitchen etc. The school was within the same grounds as the hall and at one stage the supper room was used for classes!

There was an Irish family in the Village, although the mother had not been born in Ireland, or the kids. The fathers name was; "Con" O'Meara, three girls, Maureen, Clare and Kathleen, it does not get much more Irish than that! I went to school with all of them and in fact Clare was later the bridesmaid at my wedding. But I ramble!

To this day I have a clear vision in my thick noggin of Con O'Meara up on the stage at some village gathering singing "Danny Boy". He had a beautiful tenor voice and although there was a piano in the hall, he sang it without ANY backing. I guess that I was in my early teens, so it was over 60 years ago! I sometimes played my accordion at such gatherings, but not sure why not on that occasion.

OF are you familiar with The Old Bog Road? There are a couple of versions on YT, but none are a patch on my Irish uncle by marriage's rendition. He had a wonderful baritone singing voice. He gave me my appreciation of irish music.
Oddly, the fifteen members of the extended family, of my generation don't like Irish music. Probably because they grew up with it.

I think that I may have driven down it!!! A friend that I stayed with lived down such a road.

But as for the tune; no I have only seen that which you have posted. It gets a mention on Wiki, so I suppose somebody has tried to write down some facts. The Old Bog Road - Wikipedia

I don't like musicals. This is by no way my idea of a favourite song. There have been many versions. But in my view Karen made it work.
