Thread: NSW green slip price increases

Qld. rejigged the CTP categories some time ago. When I worked at Leyland Truck and Bus, all LR's other than station wagons sold for private use by our retail outlet were registered as private use utilities. This was the cheapest classification. Now there is only one class for utilities and the CTP premium is inflated no doubt by the numbers of high usage business vehicles.

Both my defenders regoed in WA for just over a grand combined.All four of my series LR's were registered as utes when I was in NSW,you can take the roof off so they are classified as utes. Pat

My Green slip renewal just came in for the 97 Disco. NRMA $767 this was a big rise on last year and when I rang them they said its because I did not have comp insurance (whats that got to do with it?) anyway i did have comp with another company so they offered to knock a couple of hundred off. I did an online quote and GIO came in at $549 so i'll be switching to them.

My 1996 TDi300 Defender 130 green slip from NRMA was $964. Been with them 30 years no accidents in last 25 years comprehensive insurance , house, contents etc etc. would not budge as is classified as a truck. Went to RTA and they said is correct. Went to AAMI I think and was $665. Nuts!

I am running 2 x P38 4.6 HSE Range Rovers these days, one a 1995MY and the other a 1996MY. Both regos are due within a 2 week period.

I did the usual MAA Greenslip website check with the '96 & went for the cheapest option. A week later I went through the same thing with the '95 & found the cheapest Greenslip was around $100 dearer.

On checking the rego papers, the '96 has a vehicle 'shape' of PVF (panel van four wheel drive) but the '95 has PVS (panel van with seats). Both cars have the same model code of RANG95A.

I assume the insurance companies class PVS as a commercial vehicle & PVF as a passenger vehicle.

So, I rang the RMS (RTA) & explained that I had 2 of the same model car & that I would like to have the '95 changed to PVF. She ummed & aahed a bit, spoke to her supervisor who couldn't help & ended up telling me that they'd have to take it further up the line. She took my details & promised to call back later that day with an update.

One hour later, she calls back & tells me that it's all been changed so I now have 2 x PVF Range Rovers .

I have no idea if this is how the states other than NSW operate but if you're in NSW & you have a Discovery, Freelander or Range Rover, I'd be checking that it's down as a PVF to get the best possible deals on Greenslips.

I always thought the PVF was panel van with fenestrations (windows), you learn something every day.

Easy to see how IAG (NRMA) has tripled its profits now. My greenslip has gone up over 20% compared with last year. Better to be a shareholder than a customer me thinks
