We only wave to other Deafeners in the metro area or south of Perth but in the country further than about 250 kays north of Perth I usually lift a finger to other travellers regardless of vehicle.
I can't see the point of waving to plonkers who don't know one vehicle from another.

I grew up in north WA and was brought up waving to everyone.. Took me about a year to get out of the habit when I moved to nsw. No one waves. ( except landys)

On the open road I try to wave at everything - even Evoques!

Unfortunately, being in a Disco 4 waves very rarely get returned. Sad, but understandable given the average D4 driver. I did however get a wave returned by a Series III a couple of weeks ago, between Orange and Bathurst - made my day!

Maybe Defender drivers should start waving at all Land Rovers. Sure, it will be frustrating and you'll no doubt get a very low strike rate, but it might get more people thinking about it.

    Hey Jon,
That might have been me. I took mine for a spin down the mountains from Parkes about that time. Was is a Bahama Gold 109 wagon? Unfortunately out here there isn't too many Landies to wave at. They all drive Toyota's.

Sounds like it. It was definately Bahama Gold. Thanks!

We'd actually just stayed the night in Parkes on our way back from the Flinders.

    Cheers,

I often get a wave back from Deefers, (maybe 50% of the time) but this morning I got a wave back from a Disco on Mulgoa Rd in Penrith. My first disco wave.

    Its not dead.. just rare.

i wave to every landy i come across a lot do not wave back but i figure thats because they have no idea of the 'family community' as they are nto landrover folk as such. just people in a vehicle. ones that are there for astatus symbol, or a horse person who isnt ito it for example. i even wave if im in my other car and normally get a delayed wave back, i think then they work out that the person waving at them must have a landy at home too

waving to D3 - D4 , Freelander etc will never work,

I think I've mentioned it before but a few years ago family living in USA (executive types) told me they were going to the LA car show , I said great get some photos of the Landrover DC100 for me, One of them said he really likes the Landrovers, (suprise to me) They test drove Discovery and Freelander in LA but ended up buying XC-60

anyway a few months later they moved to Sydney and I drove them around in the Defender looking at Houses to rent and then around car yards to buy a car, over about a two week time frame, on the last day one of them asks "why do you have a LandRover badge on my truck"

    I nearly fell over

That just about sums up why you will never get a return wave from RangeRover D2 D3 D4 Freelander , they don't even know what a Defender is, and chances are they never even noticed one in the LR Showroom

Other than Defenders and Series Landys (80% return wave) I only wave to D1 and RRC (about 10% return wave) , your flogging a dead horse with the others. If they do notice you wave they just think "who the **** was that" you might as well be driving a Toyota.
