    P76 equalising the heads.

Hi all just hoping for some clarification pls.

I was reading an old thread regarding rebuilding a p76.
And came across a comment 400hpongas made about equalising the heads, however it's unclear to me as to weather he was referring to the cooling system (where the inlet manifold blanks of the cooling ports on the back of the head),or some thing else like maybe the rocker cover vents??
Can any one shed any more light on this pls?

I could be offtrack but in my research on buick V6's (pre dunnydoor fitment ) which was cast off the Buick 215 V8 which Rover bought, modders would plumb in a separate coolant line off each head that would join as the coolant outlet . I think this was so they could block coolant from flowing thru the inlet manifold .

alloy engine can get steam build up in the head.the original style manifolds tend to stop water flowing out the thermostat sometimes.

replacment manifolds often don't bother with water pump return that is needed when the engines is warming up.so they need a pipe from the rear of the engine to the water pump.its best if you have it from both heads.

P76 are known to have problems returning oil to the sump.
the oil comes up the pushrods normally so when they add things like rover heads with pressure fed rocker shafts they may need a drain back method.lots of people added pipes to the rear of the cyl head, like they did on the early 6 cyl.also they tend to fill up with oil under the valley and this gets drawn into the middle cyls through the gaskets.

the original valve guide seals are poor so if you have lots of oil around it gets burnt.so they added more drains on complaint engines.
