like anything, if its important to you (like the internet) you will have a backup connection.
The router we have has the ability to plug a 3G modem in the back to use as a backup connection in the event that the ADSL connection fails.

The internet going down around here is a blessing, it's the only time we can have a conversation with generation " connected to the World." Amazing, isn't it, they can be connected to the World , and have opinions about everything outside their immediate " bubble", but find it difficult to connect ,sometimes , with what is important to them at home, simple things like talking face to face at the dinner table. Is this really progress? Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Similar experience here last year for 6 weeks with intermittent internet / phone. You could hear the crackling on the phone line, sometimes so bad you could not carry on a conversation.

Had Telstra techs in twice. One told me the line quality exceeded Telstra quality standards. The other told me it's my modem, it's my adsl filter, it's my cordless phone - blah blah blah - ie not his problem Called in a private contractor to go over the house internal lines - all OK.

Finally got the ****s with it all, the crappy call centres, the lazy techs etc. The missus knows the big wiggs at head office in Melbourne so she sends them an email. Within 10 mins of the email landing I had the Melbourne boss contact me on the land line - I had to laugh - he said he could not hear me very well

Anyway, made contact over mobile phone, within 20mins of that conversation had a boss technician around the house. In one hour he found and repaired 2 separate breaks in the line within 1 km of the house.

Yep, still have occasional problems in very wet weather - roll on NBN.

Try getting an NBN connection if your house is more than about 30 years old with underground phone line.

I'm up to my third set of people out to do the job, as each set of contractors are specialists:
    - First go Fibre and networkers do everything apart from pull the fibre from the street to my house, and the conduit is old and full of dirt
    - Directional drillers come the week after to punch a new conduit line in
    - Fibre and networkers come back the following week to move the external box (as the new conduit ends in a different spot), pull the fibre from the street and connect u

Now I know why the rollout is taking so damned long...
