130km/h speed limits

Just want to chime in here. Although I don't know the ages of some of the posters here, it seems to e a young V old argument. We were all young and stupid once, over confident and arrogant. Most of us survive this phase and moderate how we drive as we get older. Unfortunately some don't survive that long. :(

Before speed cameras, way back in the dark ages, I used to drive everywhere at great speed. Now I'm a little more judicious in when and where I speed. That is probably mainly due to me not wanting to loose my licence... :D

I also rarely ride the bike anymore as the Police and Media seem to think 130 is 'Hooning' nowadays, even though I still have 4 gears left on the bike...

So, you guys can keep arguing your points until you go blue in the face, it won't change the other persons mind, and I am sure we won't see speed limits raised while my arse points to the ground, so it's all a bit of a moot point really.

Drive at 100 or 110 depending where you are and don't get booked, or drive at 130 and run the risk - your choice.

Then why are some people on this thread saying they want to travel from Melbourne to Sydney at 130km/h?

Good idea on that stretch of road. Remove the limit altogether. Fewer NSW speed daemons on the roads has got to be a good thing, right?

Interesting snip from a website explaining why SA country roads are being changed from 110km/p to 100km/h.

I often drive one of the most dangerous roads in SA, the Mt Compass road. There are a lot of poor drivers travelling that road.

Interesting reading and quite amusing. No-one is saying the limit should be raised to 130 on all roads.
When driving my 4wds I would rarely ever travel at 130. Jees, in an old V8 rangie you would have to stop twice for petrol between Melbourne and Albury anyway but a modern car or bike with a sensible driver/rider is capable of way more than 130 depending on the conditions.
I cant help but wonder about the shocking condition of the vehicles driven or total lack of skill some people on here must have if they think the world will end at 130.
I used to ride at well over double the speed limit many places and did so for many years, yes, I am considered old by some people, and there was never any issues with that speed. The only reason I do not travel much over the speed limit now is I need a license so I can work.
I doubt we will ever see the speed limits raised to sensible limits on some roads because there are people on the roads that should never have been given a license and have little care or respect for other road users. It would also cut down on the amount of tax some people are forced to pay for straying 3 kmh over the posted speed limits.

130km/h wouldnt be the limit on all 838km's of the hume.

i really dont understand why they road is a blackspot.

well i do, lots of crashes, but i cant understand why so many people crash there.

good quality road, lots of overtaking lanes, etc etc.
it doesnt seem like a poor stretch of road.

yes, most of those roads should be 100, not 110.

a key point that a lot of people seems to be missing is that 130km/h won't replace every road that is currently 110km/h.
