    Ebay Question

I am selling something on ebay and was quite happy with how things were going, quite prepared to accept the previous bid if that was how it ended. Checked out the history of the previous bidders and their history of buying RRC/old car and machinery bits fitted with them being serious buyers.

Their bids just got trumped by $5 by a buyer with zero feedback who has been a member since 2009.

Just seems a bit odd to me. I have only sold a couple of things on ebay and things have been sweet, but it just is a bit odd. I have seen adds where the vendor has advised buyers with less than a certain number of feedback to make contact before bidding, how does that work, how do you verify that someone is genuine.

Any regular sellers got any advice on this ????

The only concern I would have is if they want to pick up the item, even then not really alarm bells.

Wait for the money to hit your account and send the goods, I would be more concerned buying from someone with that history.

    Is this a big sale?

Just make sure that you confirm payment via you own accounts and do not accept emails from ebay or paypal that payment has been made as they can be forged.

I HAVE ON OCCASION CANCELLED BIDS ON BUYERS WITH ZERO FEEDBACK AS I HAVE HAD 2 OCCASIONS WHERE THEY HAD NO INTENTION TO BUY AND JUST WANTED TO STUFF YOU AROUNDAND THE LAST ONE ACTUALLY PROVIDED ME WITH A CONTACT NO AND I SPOKE TO HIM AND HE SEEMED GENUINE ENOUGH! SO JUST BEWARE AS EBAY DOES NOT ALLOW SELLERS TO LEAVE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK FOR BUYERS !!!!!!!!

I think it looks quite suspicious seeing they have been members since 2009. Has this "buyer" won the item?

If you have a problem contacting them or getting paid get in touch with ebay who are generally very helpful to sort it out. If the auction is still running you could also make a general enquiry to ebay.

As the seller go to the top rhs of an ebay page -
    Customer Support
    Contact ebay tab
    Selling
    Getting Paid
    rhs - Contact Us

You have a number of options including -
CALL US (8.00AM - 9.00PM, etc) This gives you a number (1800322928 generally) with a token that is valid generally for fifteen minutes.

    OR better go for
CALL ME. - They call you back.
Usually a very nice American will be very helpful and give you advice on what to do - and of course wish you a nice day.

Remember of course we all had start out on ebay with no "reputation" and limiting who (or how they) bid can be counterproductive. New buyers have enough to learn without sellers making it even more daunting.

It is a motor, so pick up only, just don't want to get stuffed around, just want to get rid of some stuff so the next phase can start. Seems a bit weird that someone can be a member since 2009 and have zero feedback.

I joined in 2007 but didn't make my first purchase till last year. Call me timid but its only in the last couple of years that ebay has matured to the point where I'm comfortable buying there and only from sellers with a good reputation.

    Cheers

Doesn't old feedback get deleted? I have been on ebay since 2006 but have not bought or sold anything since about 2008.

    Hi Ben,

No, feedback stays with the member, even if you change your user-name. Just checked mine - 90 pages going back to Nov 2002. In the early days nearly every buyer left feedback, alas today many can't be bothered. Sellers can't leave negative feedback for buyers.

What does drop off your details is the transaction - item, etc after ninety days and after twelve months your buyer's detailed seller satisfaction ratings if you don't sell continuously. Your feedback percentage also drops off if you don't buy or sell:

The positive Feedback percentage is calculated based on the total number of positive and negative Feedback ratings for transactions that ended in the last 12 months, excluding repeat Feedback from the same member for purchases done within the same calendar week (eBay time).

    Bob
