If this is targeting me you missed the mark!!!

I spent the weekend riding motorcycles around broken hill, with my wife on her bike.

I spent this afternoon fishing in the gulf.

I'm meeting friends in the morning for an early gym session.

I'm spending my Saturday with friends and family at the foreshore.

My beautiful Samoyed is curled up at my feet.

My lovely wife just made us coffee.

I'm going off-road touring for 8-10 days in early November.

My project vehicle is coming along nicely.

My health and general fitness is improving every day.

My pay is the least of my concern...

I think you missed the mark...

    Good day to you!

I once pulled over to have a drink of coffee and a suspicious landowner came out of his property, while watching me drove straight into the path of a truck.

After the truck driver in quick succession, had swerved, blew his horn, applied his brakes, smoked his tyres, flashed his headlights and nearly tipped his load off, he drove past me just shaking his head.

And I was stopped! not even moving.

There are a mixture of drivers , driving completely different vehicles but in this case we are mainly talking about grey nomads driving their motor homes and towing vans.
Most new vehicles will tow a modern caravan at the speed limit fairly well.
I know that some older drivers(my grandfather for example does not like to tow anymore) prefer to drive slower for various reasons just like I prefer to drive slower at times for different reasons.
Most of the time there is sufficient overtaking lanes or overtaking areas if they are going to slow for some drivers liking and if there isn't well it shouldn't really matter as you probably should not be going really fast there.
I guess just because some people feel like they could be driving the speed limit in a grey nomads position then the grey nomad should be doing the same it is one of those cases where not everyone is the same.
In regards to targeting you, yours was just the first comment I came to as I had only just started reading this thread today.

Not you at all. If I meant to target you specifically I would have quoted you directly. You are much more than just the sum of your paychecks! I am merely highlighting an all too common attitude which may be held by some people you might know...impatience beyond common courtesy.

Railing at people driving under the speed limit is almost completely pointless in the long run, there's been slowpokes on the road for all the 36 years I've held a licence and with all probability since the car was invented. Anyone whose schedule doesn't allow for predictable common traffic hazards is going to be permanently bad tempered and probably die from apoplexy.

I like to travel at around the speed limit when doing the highway, but I also regularly ride a bicycle on the road and understand that courtesy needs to go both ways.

    Peace out.

Yet I can find posts from several complaining about city drivers...

I also forgot that the premise of this forum is to twist comments to cover all scenarios!

As opposed to the reality of the original comment which was based on this:
If you can *comfortably* do the speed limit - or at least 100km/h - then do so.
Most Grey Gonads are driving the latest vehicles or at least one of recent vintage capable of easily towing at the National limit.

If your penchant is for old rattlers which can not sustain these speeds comfortably then fair enough... Drive slower...

If however you can easily sit on 100km/h on level ground - try doing so... You will find you spend much less of your time having to stare into the rear view mirrors, pull over, slow down, stop, pull out, speed up...
Not to mention you won't (potentially) spray rocks up on vehicles behind as you pull over onto the shoulder to let them pass...

I'm fine though - I just shake my head and pass those choosing to drive slow.
And listen to the frustrated chatter of the poor Truck Operators trying to make a living.

I just posted my views - and some of you don't agree - fine by me. You debate your point of view and I'll bring mine.

But alas - the use of the topics such as safety, courtesy and the suggestion that it may be a valid comment is lost as the selfish rush to defend their behavior.

To even suggest that some of these operators may have unsuitable towing combinations, insufficient driving ability to operate a combined vehicle, or that the selfish desire to save $1.00 per 100 km (a whole extra $50 to cross the entire country) justifies holding up people who do desire to travel up to the posted limit, may be earning a living driving between 2 destinations in a specified time, or are attempting to reduce fatigue by spending the least amount of time behind the wheel - is met with such aggression that one may conclude that "thou do protest too much".

Disagree with me all you will...

    Oops I digress...

You drove back from the Weekend?

    My you're clever...

Your sense of wit is preceded only by the addition of the prefix: Dim

I suggest you spend more time driving your Series 3 and less time being a **** on a forum.

    Agitated maybe, but never angry!

    You still missed the point...

Your S3 (& all others really) is not a vehicle with a design criteria that allows comfy (or safe) travel at 70+mph.

I have continued to acknowledge that in these cases (and those of mechanical problems) should travel at the maximum they are comfortable and safe at - whilst being courteous and attentive operators.

My comments were directed to those in vehicles that (excluding those suffering a mechanical issue - try a sign people!) CAN safely and comfortably travel at the posted speed limits or national limit.

To directly target me with the sarcastic question regarding your usage or continued use of your S3 was what got my hackles up...

I am not the only poster in this thread with similar views...

I'm often outspoken - and happy to wear the backlash of that behavior...

And then, there was only the faint sound in the distance of the crickets chirping . . .
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.

Unfortunately you seem to have taken on the personality of the northern end of a south bound camel...

I wish you luck in your foray into the world of snide remarks and attempted irony.
