Modern progress hey - I used to know Adelaide CBD like the back of my hand. This trip, all I wanted to do was get straight through in a hurry and get the hell out of there.

Came into Adelaide down Glen Osmond Road, straight through the centre of town and out the other side, and got up to Clare where we camped for the night.

Compared to Melbourne, Adelaide is like a big country town. I guess it's what you're used to. Mind you, the major arterials (like Glen Osmond Rd.) are quite narrow.

Definitely agree with that Mick. We stayed in Adelaide for a few days on the way across, but drove straight through on the way back. Glen Osmond Road and also South Road in Adelaide have been a joke for many years. I see that they are finally doing a bit of work to upgrade South Road at the northern end - but it's still pretty pathetic along most of it. My brother lives just off South Road close to the centre of Adelaide, and all the roads / streets in his area are pretty narrow and congested.

I guess we shouldn't complain about the road network in Perth ............... it's just the drivers that are bloody hopeless over here.

As for Melbourne - we drove from Ballarat straight into Port Melbourne and onto the boat on the way across, and on the way back, got off the boat and headed towards Geelong - bypassed Geelong and got onto the Great Ocean Road at Torquay.

I can't remember when was the last time I drove in or close to the centre of Melbourne - and don't plan on doing so in the future either.

I love cruising through Melbourne CBD. Particularly on a warm summers night.

Toorak Road at Chapel Street is classier. i take the Merc for that one.

That northern extension of South Road in Adelaide is interesting. I wonder if they'll be extending it south to the expressway?

No Mrs HH, It's not a Victorian thing, it's a Melbourne thing

Melbourne CBD thing more precisely.

Oh, BTW they're not that hard, and every intersection where you need to do them is well sign posted.

It used to be any intersection in the CBD that had trams on both roads, but I think there are others now.

Seen hundreds in real life.
It usually involves someone (sometimes a tram) running a red light.

When I got my license there used to be five intersections and they were not sign posted. Part of the written test was to name them. They did not have any signs telling drivers.

It was only after they started adding them willy nilly to Melb that they started sign posting them.

As for trams, if they had to wait behind a line of right turn vehicles they would be stuck all day.
