It is. Just Fahrenheit instead of Celsius

Have to say, generally this has been a good discussion , the points of view of those up north & in the west have been interesting. I guess daylight saving works well down south, but not so well up north, for various reasons. And it is nothing to do with the hackneyed stories of faded curtains etc so often dragged out by enthusiasts. Businesses on the Qld border having to deal with the hours difference is a valid point, but easy enough to get around. I hope we don't get to the stage of different time zones up the Qld coast, but I suppose we will be having this discussion every year for years. Bob

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Although I'm a Victorian never been in favour of DLS . Only really for city folks.
As for in NOT up setting the milking cows. It sure as hell did. It would up set their routine. From one day to next having to start an hour earlier in the morning. Milk tankers run by the clock not the sun. Evening milking an hour earlier often in the hottest part of the day. Our milk production always dropped when DLS came in. It was lost milk that you never got back. . DLS also added an extra hours daylight to work in at the end of the day. Up at the same time by the clock. ie 6 am but now still daylight till say 9 pm not 8 pm.

Some years ago, when the recalcitrant Queenslanders refused to align their daylight savings with the other eastern states, one politician suggested that because business suffers with having to deal with five time zones, Australia should operate on one time zone and, as most business is conducted in Sydney, that is the time zone that should be adopted Australia wide.

I don't know if it still happens, but in 1982 there was a 45min daylight time in Eucla WA because of the difference with SA time.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

I hear you. My wife is a Brit and I did a stint in the Lancashire summer. It wasn't total darkness till about 11pm. It was good for being in the beer garden at Ribchester's pub but that was about it. Nice evenings, very nice evenings.
    Cheers,

    Danial.

I guess it's lucky that didn't happen, considering Sydney & Melbourne are out of the loop, & Brisbane & Perth are the new powerhouses of Australian commerce, Hey, Bob

Spent a few weeks in summer in Norway a few years ago when the kids were just ankle biters and couldn't tell time.

Sun went down sometime after 11:30 pm, and was up again before 2:30am. Could not convince them to stay in bed once that sun came up

Here is a thought. Why not abolish the states or at least the boundary lines then set up time zones based on lines of longitude ?
