I too was in that long convoy down the Sydney/Newcastle expressway,my specialist bike mechanic at Ultimo,Victor Hofmann was the mechanic engaged to paint and maintain the bikes used in the movie,my friend and I cobbled up the 450 Honda (insurance write-off) for the scene where the bike goes over the cliff at Middle Head, to sell that movie in the US the Gravediggers needed to carry weapons hence the rifles in the rifle buckets down the front forks,my friend and I became friends with the film crews and would often go out to locations,as we also knew a lot of the "Gravediggers" aka Hells Angels,as we were also part of the bikers that gathered at Kings Cross most nights,Ooh! The days of Bikes,Booze, and Birds!!!!

A little known fact was that the race scene sound track between Stone's Norton Commando and Toad's Kwaka 9 was re-dubbed at Victor's shop using a Triumph Trophy on his rolling road, we all got invited to the Premier at the
    State theatre in George St.

They were fun days,I met my now wife during that time she was the only girl that I knew that could sleep while riding pillion on my then current BMW,and I was the only bloke amongst us that would take out a girl with a young daughter from a broken marriage, now the young daughter is 40,married and my wife is now referred to as "The Management" we still have the Beemer in storage, will get it out one day as it is now a Vintage Bike.

    cheers.

BTW. The pub in the movie was the Forth & Clyde at Glebe from memory.
