I have a friend and fellow military vehicle owner that has a 300TDI and R380 transmission fitted to a 1989 Rangie which was originally a Turbo D vehicle, from memory they were all painted white, his is in grey cloth trim.

You sound like you're saying the 2.5TD is O.K. Would you still suggest fitting a 200TDi or would it be possible to retrofit the TD externals to the 2.5 N.A.successfully?
Fit a Tdi. The Turbo D were a cheeper option when I was looking for a diesel option for my Series. Don't bother fitting the stuff off a Turbo D to the 2.5 N/A. It'll go ok, but not for long. The Turbo D had quite a few differences internally... If your N/A is fairly tired, it would make a good project thread to see how well it goes and how long it lasts.... then fit a Tdi once it finally gives up!

Was talking this whole issue over today and he's going to look for the complete long TD5 engine off a 24V Wolf, recons it will be cheaper in the long run and still a military configuration with mountings for the massive 24V alternator.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

The first Rangie TurboD was the 112hp, 248Nm VM, which was replaced with the 119hp, 284Nm 2.5 VM for 1990 MY and then ditch for the 200tdi when it came out.

How to make a VM diesel look awesome. Put it up against an 85hp and 200Nm 2.5td.
