if it was me, I wouldn't be concerned about that little ding. just give it a scrub with fine wet and dry and repaint it with a good metal paint.....it'll look really good with a freshen up.
Hi guys,
One of the users on here has been kind enough to offer me his factory nudge bar for my D2. It's in relatively good nic by the looks of it, but does have a small dent on one side. I'm looking to give it a good clean, repair the dent and spray the whole nudge bar to get rid of stone chips and such.
Here is a picture:
I have read that perhaps the best way to go about this is to use some cement or metal filings to fill the dent, sand it off and then paint it. Thing is, I don't want to pay to have it painted and would prefer to just use spray paint.
What's the most effective, yet affordable way to go about repairing and painting the nudge bar?

Thanks for responding. I'm sure it will. Just wondering if there is a better repair method than filling the dent with cement. Guess I can get some good metallic paint and a paintbrush rather than use a spray can or gun for the repaint.
You could sand it back to bare metal and use standard bog ... ie: just normal automotive filler.... Then spray it satin black. It'll never look perfect as the tube will likely be out of round. So even if you fill the dent, the shape will be still slightly squished (if that makes sense).

I had one of those nudge bars on a D1. The mounting bracket where it is welded to the bar cracked and I found it had some sort of a plastic type of finish that peeled away. Not sure of the brand and whether they all have that finish . It wasn't powder coat.
If you want a durable paint you could go to an auto paint shop and by a pressure pack can of 2 pac. It consists of the paint, the hardener and thinner.
The hardener is in a bottom compartment of the can, there is a push button on the base of the can, you push it and it breaks a seal, hardener goes into the paint . Shake and spray. It cures to a hard 2 pack finish so should resist stones better than ordinary paint.
Warning : Care when using product as it is 2 pac and don't inhale the stuff.
I recently used it on my outboard, as I didn't want to set up the compressor for a small job.
Nope - rattle cans are the way to go. Lots of light coats (as opposed to one or two thick ones) and you can get a great result.
Septone and Hammerite are good hard wearing paints.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Thanks for the tips. Recon there is a technique to get the bar back into it's original shape?
If I fill it, I do realize it'll stick out a little on the sides where it has been dented in so want it as perfect as possible.
Was watching one of these on ebay this last week and missed it by 10 minutes as it went for $50!
After you've repaired the dent, give the whole bar a couple of coats of Primer Filler sanding back after each coat until all stone chips are eliminated and you have a nice smooth finish. Then apply a couple of finishing coats of your desired colour.
