Glad Yvonne is OK. Go give her another cuddle to remind you all how lucky you are, and how quickly we can be taken away :-)

Glad she wasn't on her bike.
One less Doff Doff car in the system isn't a bad thing

That's the one. I did some research on the net, and they had some good comments about them - and it's fairly close to home too.

Nothing like a solid old ladder chassis being hit by something with crumple zones Gimme a modern car that will disintigrate on impact anyday. If your run up the @rse by something modern, and are driving a modern car .... Your much less likely to be injured. both cars will be totaled, but who cares about that. The problem with the old Rangie not squishing is it'll pass on those impact forces to the people driving them ............................ Really bad would be two big 4wds with ladder chassis colliding. The might not be a lot of damage done to the cars, but it's sure as hell going to hurt the occupants The cars haven't crushed a ****load removing a lot of the impact force.

That's the thing Shane, its not an old Rangie with a chassis, but a modern Rangie with a monocoque.

That was one of the reasons I was surprised that there was so little damage to it. It clearly needs something much bigger to give it a whack up the bum for the rear crumple zones to start doing there thing.

Good to hear every1 is oki Even though it has a monocoque chassis, they are still built a little stronger to cope with 4WD work! As for crumple zones, yeah they are cool until you find they forget to stop crumpling! Both my accidents have been in older vehicles,70s Valiant and a mid 70s Falcon, seatbelts only safety item and in both the crash repairer said I would not have walked away in a modern (at the time of the crash late '80's model!) That is not a plug for older cars though and some newies can do well, depends on event.
Not sure of your model rangie but I found some crash tests

Thanks a that crash test is for the new model - just released in Aus. Mine is the previous model which scored a 4 star euro rating, so pretty good. It has 10 airbags, etc, etc. I think I'd prefer to be in that, than my current model dunny door I drive everyday though.

Wow that's interesting .... I was assuming you meant one of the oldies. Ladder chassis sure do suck in accidents (people have this weird idea 'cos there a big heavy 4wd there safe..... Well actually they are pretty safe if they hit something a fraction of the size of them ...

check this out for a comparison compared to the new rangie above... a 2010 Land cruiser with a big heavy chassis.

I reckon my old Rangie would probably crash more like a chinese 4wd (sit down before you view this one ... it'll put off any ideas of buying a chinese 4wd that's for sure!)

the modern 5star cars are really bloody impressive. Check out the cabin structure after every test. There is absolutely no intrustion into the "safety cell". They use all sorts of exotic high tensile steel in new cars.

The new falcons/commondores/etc all meet these 5star crash tests

Very interesting with those crash tests. "2010 Land cruiser with a big heavy chassis" Hmm, Have you ever looked at the chassis in a landcruiser? "Heavy" is not a word that springs to mind! The old 1s, yes, New? nope! At a function 1 day the son of a neighbor parked his shmick 2006 'cruiser tray next to my deefer. As he left(with the odd lemonade in him , he misjudged and hooked his arb bar in mine . He elongated and twisted the mounts in the chassis on the cruiser, never did anything to the Defender!
As for the Chinese imports, My dad knows a police crash investigator , His summery is dont touch any! and he shakes his head at how they get in!
I do think the first rule of surviving a crash is..Dont have 1 in the first place!! Sometimes I wonder if all these safety functions cause a blase effect in drivers.
    Cheers Scott
