But it has to be rejected 3 times and the new Senate would be in place before the last vote.

Thank Garry, I do not have knowledge of how it works.
I guess that the independents and the PUP senators will be very careful what vote in the future if they like to keep their seat warm for more than one term.
    Interesting times ahead I guess.....

An image that keeps forming in my mind is a promotional campaign promoting the idea , similar to the " be alaert , not alarmed " . I this case i see " if youre not producing [ insert soviet era picture of happy workers ] , you are reducing[ again insert image , maybe a dole bludger or a worm eaten corpse] . I am sure this would appeal to the national psyche to jump on board !

it appears a lot of people think they have to work until they are 70

the govt wants to lift pension allocation age to 70 , not 'retirement age'

is there an official retirement age?

I retired last year at 60.

If you are concerned about your future , go to your bank......yes your bank.

They want to always look after your money.....it's in their vested interests......they can advise you how to 'hide' assets and where to hide them.

You can 'carefully' sign your home to your children or anyone you please and rent it back at a pitifull price to avaoid assets tests.

There are so many different things you can do.

    As Douglas Adams said......DON'T PANIC

I would like to see how a brick labour worker will be able to work 8 hours a day.
One thing it is to work in an office environment seating in a desk and other is working in a job were demand fitness.
IMO this mob like to see Australians at the same level that the population in the poor Asian countries.
Soon will see 2 or 3 generations living in the same house helping each other to be able to survive.

Not just this mob in power now Chuckie, all of them would love to have us on a bowl of rice a day and work until we drop.
Of course it's easy for them sitting back laughing and joking with their mates and when thrown out they get a gold plated pension which will never ever be touched by any government.

well, we are constantly hearing how the Australian Old Age Pension Plan could run out of money , embarrassing abbott and costello

how come we never hear of the welfare plan running out of money?

what's interesting is the first group work all their lives for their money , but the second group don't

There won't be any DD. Look at the polls.

Palmer will give Abbott what he wants in exchange for what Palmer wants - which is big wads of our money so he can make more money for himself. It's a sweet deal. And it's here for at least the next 6 years. Palmer has invested wisely and bought himself the best govt money can buy.

Would have loved to be at retirement age in the 1970's/1980's.
Would not have to worry much about personal resource use, GHG emissions, Australia's employment future, the expanding gap between rich and poor, mad muslims blowing stuff up and out breeding everyone, humanity responsible for mass species extinction and environmental damage. All of which getting worse every year.

By the time I retire there could be 10 billion humans, fighting it to exploit what limited resources are left on a rapidly warming planet. What a great future to look forward to.

Maybe I watch the news too much.
