I was being facetious - treating serious issues with deliberately inappropriate humour; flippant.

Well this discussion just causes ill feeling among what is usually a pretty decent bunch of people with a common interest. Historically this issue has occurred many, many times in different disguises and ALWAYS those on the softie compassionate side end up winning in the long term. Read your history books. So argue all you like, turn back as many boats as you like, have whatever opinions you like, but rest assured there will be different coloured people with different customs here whether you like it or not. The mode of transport is irrelevant. Those people will change their ways over time and we will adjust ours as well....anyone for a kebab or some chow mein? People have been whinging about Chinese, Greeks, Italians and Vietnamese immigrants, legal and illegal just in my lifetime. They would all supposedly destroy our Australian way of life, eat smelly food and worship different imaginary beings. Life goes on, all people want a peaceful life to raise their kids. If you support any idiot politician who wants to make temporary points by acting tough and you fall for it then I'm happy for your temporary win. Once again, read your history books.
Geez, change is inevitable, they even let women vote now regardless of the fact that it's scientifically proven they have smaller brains.

In the news at the moment

Read the article by clicking this link.

Ref; Asylum baby a 'test case' for Australia | The Mercury

"A LEGAL bid to stop a newborn baby and his asylum-seeker family being sent from Brisbane to Nauru is a test case for Australia, lawyers say."

"Lawyers for the family have sought a court injunction to stop their return to Nauru, which the family fear is imminent.

They say there are real concerns for the health of diabetic mother Latifar and premature Ferouz if the family returns to detention on the tiny island nation."

Those people were executed by firing squad in 2008. I don't think either of us has to change in that case....next question?

Not much chance of that - four of the perps were executed by firing squad by Indonesia, one was later killed in a shoot-out with local Police. Others were arrested.

The attack killed 202 people including 88 Australians, 38 Indonesians, 27 Britons, 7 Americans and 6 Swedish citizens. Hundreds of others were seriously injured.

Five terrorists have been shot. Well that's all fixed then, problem solved. Open the borders people, we're wasting our time, the softie compassionates are going to win anyway. Let's not even have a country. Compassion tells us they need it more than we do.
