    Hello from Brisbane.

Back in the 60s my aunty decided it was time to get a license so she fronted up to the Singleton Police Station. The sergeant whose lot it fell to to supervise the test told her to jump behind the wheel of the black maria (a Ford F100) and head up John St park next to the bakery. He went in and got a pie and then she drove him back to the station - test passed.

    Cheers,

The back of the new "We know everything about you" Qld drivers licence showing marine licence info but, as mentioned before, the one time I've been approached by police while on the water they just asked for name & address, checked on a computer & left me alone. I guess doing it this way they've added a cost for the boat licence into the price as the original licence was non renewable for life! Cheeky bastards!

The good old days.....my dad had been driving a semi with low loader and dozer until the boss found out he didn't have a licence, he dropped into a one cop town in the truck and asked for a truck licence. All he had to do was reverse park the truck and trailer between the two goal post on the football field across the road from the police station. The policeman gave him his truck and motorbike licence to go with his car licence.

lol.......i don't expect to remeber much from 25 years ago, started out puttering around in a 9hp tinnie to a ski boat with a 350 chev towing bare foot skier at a milion miles an hour dodging fishing boats

i remember the old guy that took me for the test saying its americian roads on the water.....sooo when going up or down a river keep to the right

i also seem to remember whe approaching land or going up a river any thing painted red or has a red light keep it on your left or port side and if its green keep it on your right or starboard........pretty when our group was new to water sking we had it back to front we kept going to the left of a red marker only to be pulled up by other skier who were amazed that we didn't hit rocks.....

    in answer to your question.....

Port = left and red.......all the short wrds
strarboard = right and green ......all the long words

    passing going out to sea?
overtaking another boat i'm guessing you would pass on his port side i.e. he would be on my starboard

or do you mean approaching another boat?
in this case i would keep to the left if possible, he would be on my port

    how did i go?

George belonged to a noted family & was a well known Redcliffe identity in boating circles & would have tested countless aspiring boaties over the years including myself!
