I'm always in two minds about waving to Series owners. Not because I don't want to acknowledge them, God knows they deserve our undying respect for keeping the old girls in action, but encouraging a Series owner to loosen their grip on the steering wheel, or (Heaven forbid) take one hand off 8O , to return a wave, could make me the cause of a road accident! I've driven older Landrovers (nearly wrote "Defenders") a fair bit. Whether your hands or on the wheel or not doesn't seem to make a huge amount of difference. Driving one was an exercise in anticipation. You'd see a corner, and a few hundred metres before you'd start to wind on the lock. After a few rotations the slack would be taken up, and the vehicle would begin to turn.

Especially if one sees an AULRO sticker.

The days of being able to have interesting conversations on the CB are not gone. Still possible, even with the cowardly juveniles that now inhabit the airways.
My sticker is on the LHS of the tray so if you can see it when you are going to wave then you are either: to my left hand side (not likely since I'm usually in that lane) or about to T-bone me. 8O
In that latter circumstance I'm sure a wave would make me feel much better about the result.

And yeah the UHF is always over-run by cowardly juveniles - not to mention the cowardly immature senioriles (?) :!:

Yes, some may be older. However, I expect the majority of CB timewasters have yet to have certain parts of their anatomy descend.

Kev .
Got waved at this morning by a guy in a patrol (I was in the work patrol) left me totally confused - I automatically waved back and then thought this doesn't usually happen ie. patrols waving.

Perfectly normal for a landrover vehicle though, series though to defender.

I can wave without lifting a hand from the wheel. If I am waving with hand/s off the wheel, for the sake of the Ancestors pull over, turn around and follow...that wild waving usually means "For ****'s sake HELP...the old girl has taken to steering herself (again)!!" In which case, I'll be needing a friendly landy owner around to help explain to the police how I came to rest in this unusual position. 8O

Cheers,

I was on King Island a couple of years back and soon discovered( ) that EVERYBODY waves at EVERYBODY else,,
but,
its a simple one finger ( no vlad,, the index) raise off the wheel,

Had a nice metallic blue Disco wave at me the other day in Maryborough,

If your still out there blue Disco, hang on I havent been to town since!!!!

I've learned from this thread that I should wave more.

But there will be a pecking order:

1. All Series and forward controls.
2. All Defenders and 90's and 110's.
3. Offroad all Discos and Ranger Rovers
4. On road dirty Discos and Range Rovers.
5. All Military LR's

Should I flash high beam as well as the subtle lifting of the index finger? 8)

One can only suffer rejection ops:

You will suffer rejection if you persist in placing us ex-Mil types last behind glorified shopping trolleys that just happen to be dirty because mum drove the thing through a mud puddle in last weeks rain!!! 8O

If it wasn't for military LR's, they'd not be the household name they are today...Leyland Brothers notwithstanding

So how about you revise your "pecking order" and stop trying to curry favour with the mum's of Oz
