    Tyre size equivalent

    Hi all,

Cant seem to find a converter on the net to tell me what I need to know so ill open it up to any tyre gurus on here,

I have alloy 16x8 rims with 235 85r16 tyres fitted unfortunately I only have 4 (came with the car) the spare is a stock rim and tyre so it not really any use if I get a flat, what I wanna know is can I fit a tyre to the stock 15x7 rim to give me the same rolling diameter as the others and if so what tyre size do I need.

    Thanks
    Kevin

A Disco/Deefer steel 16" spare will only set you back $25 bucks or so on eBay. Surely that would cut out the guesswork?

(And by the way, the closest I could find was a 215r15, with a 5mm difference in diameter)

Tire Size Calculator - Tire & Wheel Plus Sizing

If your spare is a stock disco 1 rim then it should be 16" x 7", the stock Tyre sizes for a disco are 205R16 (205/80R16) and 235/70R16, it sounds like you have defender tires fitted do you know what offset your wheels are? I think the standard offset is 33mm, it should be stamped on the wheel somewhere. There are numerous threads about Tyre sizes and the offset required to prevent scrubbing.

Wouldn't it be logical to use the same size tyres...? Mums disco has 16x8's, mine has 16x7's and the trailer has 16x7's, all with 235/70-16's on them, they're all the same rolling diameter...

My RRC has 235/85's on it, good size tyres, chuck one on your spare, the rum width difference won't mean diddly squat.

I may have a new old stock General Grabber available for sale soon (came off a new defender in about '05).

    Cheers
