Been there twice buddy. Typical modern Asian city. Cleaner than the true cess pools, pretty Westernised, but still mostly just yuk!
That's only my opinion though. You and others seem to think differently... So be it.

G'day, my first post as a new AU-LRO member. (About to take delivery of a 2013 Puma after owning a Td5 and before that a 300Tdi (and L O N G before that, a 1951 Series 1 which I wish I'd kept of course!)
Hopefully I'll be posting soon on L/R related topics.
But first to Singapore....
Suggest you book a ticket on the Singapore Flier ... the world's biggest Ferris wheel. (Yes, bigger than the London Eye). Awesome views of the city.
Also recommend the first thing you do is jump on one of the red tourist buses that do a circuit around the city. Good way to get your bearings and then mark on your map the things you want to take a closer look at.
Also nice to take a short boat trip on the river. The ferry quay is next to a bridge and very colourful government building.
And if you need a new suit (most Land Rover drivers do!) then find a tailor in the Indian section of the city. They'll do up a custom fitted suit for less than you'd pay you'd buy an off the shelf one in Oz.
For getting around, the Metro train system is brilliant. Cheap, fast, safe and goes everywhere. Highly recommended.
One word of warning.... it'll be bloody HOT there right now, so be prepared to sweat a lot and drink a lot.
Have a great time.
couple of memory's for me were , I was reading a book by the hotel pool , and the pages stared to fall out as the backing glue was melting , and sitting at the airport bar having a beer , when a young Ozie guy , ordered a beer and coke , when he was told how much he didn't have enough money to pay , I was using up my last Singapore $ so helped him out . Lesson look out for prices ..
Oh yeah... drinking at the aiport - mega $$$$$
done it twice and after the first time I said never again!
-Lamb Murtabek at Zam Zam in the Arab quarter
-Chilli Crab and Pepper Crab and Laksa at hawker markets
-If you are feeling adventurous try Durian at a roadside vendor sitting on a milk crate
-Indian food in little India
-breakfast buffet in most 5 star hotels
-A drink at the bar overlooking the rooftop pool at the Marina Bay Sands
-raffles can be cool but it also can be pretty quiet and boring, take a fun group with you if you go. Don't try a Singapore Sling, they are horrible.
I believe the way around this is to lease. The friends we were visiting leased their car for the two years they were there and didn't think it was too unreasonable in cost. However, they did say it was very embarrasing parking in the apartment car park. When I visited them I understood .... imagine a car park full of millions .... yes millions of dollars worth of European sports cars .... and then park your Mazda 2 amongst them .... LOL!!!
Another interesting note:
The first time I visited Singers was in 1981 and the place was (in my recollection) pristine. I'd heard the stories about floggings for minor littering, etc.
However, this time I was shocked to see a lot of litter in some of the parks .... more than you would see even here. Apparently it's dropped by all the imported labour .... then cleaned up later by one of their own who is being payed by the Government .... LOL  I'm not sure why the policy seems to have relaxed ... maybe the Government doesn't want to discourage imported labour and were finding it too hard to change the 'littering' culture of the imports.
Whilst I enjoyed Singapore, the only reason I stopped there on both occasions was due to the fact that I was enroute to/from Europe. I'm not sure I'd specifically go there.
Cheers,
Kev.
