I haven't been there for fifty years. The poms were running the place then. A bottle of Tiger was the Malay dollar equivalent of ninepence Australian. Chinese men would grab your shirt sleeve in the street saying "Joh', Joh', you wa' gir? Fi dorrar, Joh'." If you responded in the negative a common response from the chokie was "Orrr, no wa' gir. You wa' boy? Boy fi dorrar." All white men were "John" or "Joh'". I believe it has been cleaned up since.
