2005 trip western QLD. Stopped at a rest area NW of Auguthel in a 1994 300TDI. Half way through a cuppa there was a loud hiss and green stuff started running over the red dirt. Car was boiling. We limped into Tambo where a Diesel truck mechanic refused to look at it. After pleading he raised the bonnet, looked around and asked "but where is the radiator cap?"
I showed him the reservior but he said "**** mate I can't work on one of these things..not even a radiator cap!"
Took on 100 litres of bad bore water and had used it all by the time we crept into Blackall where we also failed to get anyone to look at it, was trucked home under RACQ membership. Turned out to be a simple water pump.
Point is that while we were in Blackall we had a chat to some locals who told us that if it isn't a Toyota or Nissan it will not get looked at in the outback. Now this was a simple machine, no computer even. What hope would there be these days?

I don't believe i will never understand some individuals mentality. After a recent trip upto to exmouth via shark bay and steep point.

I got a text from a mate back in QLD asking if the LAN-DROVER made it. To which i responding off course then came back the
    "well thats surprising"
    "Why's that i asked"
"well cause its a LAN-DROVER" (something he believes is a piece of **** soccer mums car "a defender a soccer mums car hahahaha")
before i could reply i got a message saying.
"i think i have blown up the hilux" oh really i replied
"the 2.7? hows that, toyota's never break"
"i think i have done the same as the guy down the road" ( the guy down the road put his piston through the engine block going over the gateway bridge).
haha and he still believe's that the 2.7 great, gutless and not so reliable it would seem theres not to much going for that engine. I just don't get it, but anyway let the haters keep hating hopefully the price will drop a bit and i can get another Landy.

I once heard a saying not all Jap 4x4ers are bogans but all bogans drive Jap 4x4s. Which i think i rather true when i drive past a landy i see a great big wave coming my way and when i drive past a lot of Jap 4x4's i see a guy wearing his hat backwards with a sleeve of pointless fashionable tattoos. Being 18 i should probably belong to the second group but I'm very glad i don't.

I've mentioned before that a good mate of mine runs a few Hilux's for his workshop, but 2 of his mechanics, and his office girl also drive them, so you can go there and see 5 or 6 of them in a row. They always get the ****s when I walk in bleating like a sheep...

Yep, I have a 2.7L Petrol Hilux which I use for work. The alternator crapped out late last year and just when I needed an alternator there were naturally none in stock in the whole of Australia.

Luckily, a new one was appropriated from another vehicle getting some engine damage repaired. Unluckily, it came from a Toyota dealership and it cost me over $850. In my case, the myth of Toyota parts being readily available - and cheap, bit me in the hip pocket. BOHICA!

There's no myth about Toyota parts being cheap - they are known to be some of the most expensive spares in the Country. They give LR a run for their money.... At least we can buy cheap parts from the Mother land.

I think that's about what I paid for a Disco 2 Alternator. $850 isn't cheap but it's on par with Land Rover.

    Happy Days.
