Hey Epic Dragon.
I have experienced the negative attitude towards Land Rovers from the moment I took delivery of my brand new Zambesi silver D2a near on 10 years ago.
I have found it is born out of ignorance mostly. When mine was new a work mate commented that my car would be hopeless off road because it has independent front suspension with no low range. I politely informed him that he was wrong and to have a look under neath.
He did........ohhhhh..........ohhhhhh???????. Ok. Geez, it's built like a brick s__t house!
He was a Patrol driver. You will find that the most of the knockers will be Toyota drivers. Toyota's are over rated, expensive and VERY average.
I have good mates that drive Pajero's and Playdo's and they have great respect and admiration for my Disco. So I guess it just depends on the character of the person in question. All the time rest assure in the knowledge that you chose to own an iconic, advanced, brilliantly designed off road vehicle that the Japanese imitators try to copy, and succeed, only 2-3 years later after the Land Rover.
I am also a Volvo enthusiast and have copped the same unfounded BS from the masses of uneducated bufoons for years so I guess i'm used to it.
Volvo is very similar to L/R, cutting edge tech, safe from inception and hugely under rated. Practical, Solidly engineered to last decades with legendary reliability. (may be the Land Rover differs slightly here!!!)
The masses don't understand so just smile and wave
Regards
Robbo
