any one sourced an excavator rock breaker from china?

i've got a 5.5 tonne excavator and need to break a lot of sandstone rock to put my driveway in. i've looked locally but they are big $ even second hand. anything that comes near my budget is secondhand and, of course, 'has hardly been used mate, in excellent condition'.

i'm not averse to chinese products coz let's face it there's a hell of a lot of stuff made there and sold in aus and it aint all crap (ala jap crap when i was growing up).

my excavator is actually one of these chinese ones, BUT it's got a yanmar motor, kobelco electronics, bosch (rothenberger hydraulic pump) etc etc and she goes bloody well.

so anyone got experience of buying one direct from china (or elsewhere)? i want to try get the gravel on this season coz last year just did not stop raining.

    thanks,
    Brett.

Can't help with the quality of Chinese rock hammers. But a hammer will soon find any weakness in your Chinese excavator but if you are only breaking sand stone should be ok

Agreed, in sandstone you should be fine, but the majority of failures we see in our large hire fleet of excavators - 4 to 30 tonne sort of sizes, is when a hammer is being used on them.

Even on the quality stuff **** breaks...

Back on the subject of Chinese hammers - as with anything coming out of there - there is really bad stuff, and really good stuff. Quality control is usually the biggest failing of the bad stuff. I've seen bad stuff come good in 6 months when much tighter quality control is implemented at the factory and stuff actually gets checked before it's shipped. Still doesn't give you an answer though, but there should be something from over there that suits your needs and won't crap itself the first time you use it.

thanks for replies. really trying to narrow it down to a specific factory or place someone has sourced one from or someone who has a unit they're happy with and i can work backwards. there's zillions of places on the net advertising just got to sort the wheat from the chaff.

bacicat - agree with the quality variations you talk about. lots of examples of very good quality stuff coming out of china (and same for not so good too).

as an example, the business which made my machine was bought by Kobelco. i don't have a prob with the quality of it at all. had a guy make up bracket for my grab and he gave build quality, welds etc thumbs up. my neighbour and his son are heavy machinery contractors and driven it, again big thumbs up.

there are places advertising they are ISO9001 certified. so aside from them writing it on their website and actually being certified, would that give a good confidence level they make a quality product?

i know there's no warranty but hey you can buy 3 or 4 of these hammers for the price of a new one local! this is for a private job so i can take a bit of a risk.

    thanks,
    brett.

Have you considered hiring one to suit your machine for the job???,or do you plan on using it with your machine for future work???.

yeah had thought of hiring but some of the costs will be the same ie still have to get head bracket made up, still need to buy non-quick fit connectors.

if i hire, there's a day lost going into town to pick up and same on return. it is say 3-4 days of breaking if things go well. if have problem it just adds up. it's a private job and i don't intend to do it for work but i just look at it that if have my own breaker can do the job no rush, can use on other stuff around the property and when all done sell it with the machine.

kicking myself, missed one at auction recently brand new for $2200. which seems to be price of lot of chinese ones.
