What plate?
Have noticed a lot of vehicles recently where the rego plates are using coloured letters on a black background. My first thoughts we surely they can't be legal as you can't read the letters unless you are a few metres away.
I have good eyesight and don't need glasses yet but I could not read the rego plate on a ute in front of me this morning once he moved one car length in front. Great for the owner as he may escape fixed camera's and toll's etc but what about other road users identifying the car if he's involved in a hit and run etc.
Anyway it seems that in NSW at least they are more interested in profit from selling the plates than they are about the visibility of them.
""MyPlates" range is a product of the Plate Marketing Pty Ltd on behalf of the NSW Roads and Maritime Services."
Attached is a pic of the ute with a plate using blue lettering on a black background hence almost invisible when compared with the vehicle with standard plates which is even further away.
What plate?

Police ANPR equipment, Toll roads and Fixed Speed cameras also use infra red to view plates, and they are very effective and clearly defined. Nest time you pass through a Tolling point, take a look at the number of cameras recording your image. They each use different light spectrum, and the images are then layered to produce a clear image day or night and in all weather conditions.
However to other road users or pedestrians relying on the naked eye, they can be hard to decipher.
Shine a light on a new bumper plate, they are incredibly reflective and the cameras have no trouble identifying them, I agree regarding the ability of other road users to see, seems silly to me.... might go get some new blue on black plates!
Cheers
Will
What about this for a plate. Still availableand plenty reflective.
