Beware: By the time you've added all the handling charges at the port, that price will triple...

...then you have to ship it back!!!

PS A Landy will fit in a 20' container.

There will also be a compulsory charge to fumigate and clean the vehicle upon landing, because of Oz's system to keep out foreign diseases and pests. I think you have to use the nominated cleaning company, no choice and it doesn't matter how well you cleaned it yourself, they still have to do it. Not sure of the cost, but I expect it would be at least $500. Suggest you research it.
But I'm sure it wil still be a great trip experience for you.

    Hi,
I just payed a deposit on my first Defender today, and planning my first trip in September, to Birdsville, Big Red, Lake Eyre, Coopers Creek, if your interested we can chat. No extreme stuff, just my bucket list. About three weeks i think, before it gets too hot.

Hopefully 2015 will be Ularu & surrounds

No there won't. It will be inspected by AQIS but they'll only order the cleaning if not up to standard.

FWIW - Mine passed first time and didn't need a clean/fumigate.

Interesting. Thanks for that. Everyone else I've read who went through that had to be fumigated.

Damn, I couldn't even get mine from NSW to WA without having to have it cleaned by an approved agency. And by my standards it was damn near immaculate (doesn't say much about my standards...)

    It wasn't a quick job...

    • Picked the front end of car up with crane & got inside with a hot water power wash. Then did the underneath & chassis rails.
    • Full service with lots of new (shiny) parts.
    • New tyres.
    • New camping & recovery gear (kept in wrapping and made point of showing AQIS).
    • Waxoyl (underseal) the entire car with black, to make it look like new!
The other important thing is to be present at the inspection, preferably suited & booted, with lots of paperwork and proof of the work (officials like that )!! They are then able to see you understand why this cleaning is important and you've put the effort in.
