From their website:
I like the specs but I wonder if the e-ink display will work with turn-by-turn street navigation, which needs a reasonable screen refresh rate.Does Earl only work in North America?
Earl works worldwide, however the maps and radio frequencies used are for North America. European and Australia/New Zealand editions will be available towards the beginning of 2014.
Also I like that it can be used as a e-book reader and I assume that the battery life will be much better with the GPS and radios turned off (my current e-ink e-reader lasts about 3 weeks)
Certainly dont expect it to be useful at browsing the web and video will be out of the question with e-ink. If anyone has not used e-ink devices before note that the screen refresh is very slow (making it perfect for black and white text-only book reading)
I've been watching this since it first came up on Kickstater. I know it wont be as specked out as a full blown tablet. Though something rugged with a good battery life and maps already on it sounds great. Once they release the Aussie version i will try and get one.
