That's fine Ian, it would be a boring world if we all thought the same.

I reckon grubs like Cowan should be released into the "protective custody" of the parents of his victims. I am sure they would look after him!. Save the country a lot of money as well. Prison doesn't come cheap.

Brian, I think Bruce and Denise Morcombe have more dignity than to engage in violence for revenge.

They probably wouldn't have to do a thing Ian. The thought of what might happen would probably be enough for Cowan.

This Maggot judge in Darwin should be charged as an accessory, these Rock Spiders are never rehabilitated and should be castrated and jailed for life.
I can only hope that this bastard gets some jailhouse justice, Regards Frank.
P.S. do you realise this maggot could be out of jail before his minimum parole period comes up, with remissions, he could be back on the street in 18 years and with no parole hanging over his head, he WILL reoffend.
    Exactly.

I've long held the belief that a hell of a lot of the crime committed in this country could have been prevented if it wasn't for the pathetic judiciary that we have here.

It's about time that some of these pathetic judges and magistrates are held to account for their decisions - and the results of those decisions.

At least in this case - I saw on the news this morning that the Qld Government is looking at how to increase the non-parole period for this scum.
    Cheers .........

Brian I know of a bloke that while out on bail for MURDER, shot dead two blokes in the Petersham Inn and the next day shot and left for dead another bloke in the Toxeth pub in Glebe.
He was sentenced to life in prison with a non-parole period of 20 years, he was out of jail on remissions in 12 years, 8 years before he was due to be paroled.
What I would like explained is how can a judge set a non parole period on a LIFE sentence, correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Life mean "for the term of your natural life", so how do these bastards get remissions, 1/3 for first timers, 1/4 for the rest Automatically, it is a joke, no remissions for the victims family, Regards Frank.

Remission is there to encourage prisoners to behave themselves in jail which makes it safer for other prisoners and staff. If they knew they had no hope of getting out early there is no reason to not cause trouble but if you have remission as an incentive most will behave which contributes to maintaining security and safety in the prison. (This is very important).

What most people don't realise is that when politicians grandstand about increasing prison sentences is all they do is lift the maximum that can be given not the minimum sentence. So what happens is they lift the maximum and then a judge gives the new maximum which then gets reduced on appeal because of precedent. Until they start lifting the minimum penalties nothing will change because there is always a precedent on a lower penalty for the same crime previously.

It will be interesting to see what happens when Cowan appeals. It is highly likely he will get a reduced sentence. We can only hope the Qld govt brings in indefinite sentencing before he is due for release.

Unfortunately, he will be protected in prison and segregated with others of his ilk so it is unlikely anything will happen to him.

I understand what you are saying, but how do you work out say 1/4 remission on a LIFE sentence, how do you work out how long is a life sentence. Would you take an average number of years served by a person of this dogs age, calculate a certain number of years and then apply his 1/4 remission and all the other remissions he can get. I've heard of prisoners that actually knock back the chance of parole, because with some lengths of sentences they only, with remissions, have to serve a few more weeks/months and they are out on full time served and are not bound by the conditions of parole.
I don't believe in Mandatory or Minimum sentences, what I want to see is judges reflect the horror of the crime and the feelings of the public, and if there is no death penalty, sentence these bastards, who will never be rehabilitated and will certainly re-offend, to a Life sentence, "For the term of your natural life", only way out is in a pine box, Regards Frank.

Cowans defence team is appealing his sentence, it has been reported. I can't believe it. I have a feeling he wont last 20 years, he'll get what he deserves. He can rot in hell. Bob

True, but if he had been convicted shortly after the crime, good chance he may have had the chair kicked out from under him.

Not an uncommon occurrence back then.
