I live in a rural area with mainly 80-100 speed limits on the main roads in the area.
When you get these groups of riders, I suppose they like to think they're a "Peleton", on these rural roads, with the 1 metre law , any vehicle behind these blokes will have to stay there for up to 10 klms or more or break the law by crossing a double line.
I'd hate to be a truck or bus driver, poor bastards!
I'm sure a lot of people from around Brissie would have encountered these blokes on the Samford-Dayboro, Mt Mee & Mt Glorious roads. Downright dangerous to all involved. I've even come across them behind a bloke (coach?) on a motor scooter all doing about 15-20 kmh in an 100 zone.
Perhaps these people should be limited to roads that suit their vehicle speeds i.e. no public roads with a speed limit above 70 kph.

It's not just me then. In Adelaide I'd swear they've worked out the most dangerous roads to ride on and made a sunday morning course out of them. Roads that two cars going in opposite directions barely have enough room on seem to be the challenge that is sought by this type of cyclist.

I always try and give them as much room as possible but have to laugh when they have traffic on a narrow winding road down to a snails pace all for no real reason (I assume they aren't going shopping or going anywhere but in a big loop).

Amazes me that there aren't a lot more accidents.

Personally I like living too much to ever mix it with traffic on a bike, I'm just not that brave I guess. No issues when I was a kid, but there is a lot more traffic around nowadays.

I know Collins St well and I wouldn't ride a bike down it, let alone ride on the inside left of a cab close to the kerb. Maybe she was looking for the money shot...certainly seemed to be wired up for it and rather successful when all is said and done.

Genuine question: have you seen the full video (I haven't) or are you basing this on what the media has chosen to show us?

She had posted it unedited on cycling forums and YouTube.

It is as the media posted it...

With all the vitriol and hatred regularly directed at cyclists in the media and on the internet in the space of a couple of days there were 2 accidents involving P-platers and cyclists with the result of one man in his 70's being killed in the first accident and 2 men (1 aged 57) in hospital.

No reports on the cause of the first accident but the second one apparently involved a 17yr old in a Ford Falcon losing control in the dry on a corner taking out the 2 rear cyclists in a group on Canning Hwy in South Perth. It pays to have a close look at the front tyre in the video.

Yet there's no corresponding outcry that we should ban 17 year olds from our roads considering they're such a menace.

When a cyclist gets hit even if they did nothing wrong they get the blame simply for being on a bike. We talk about Racism, Sexism etc in our society, to me this is just another example of the bigotry that exists in our society because someone is identifiably different.

I read a comment on here that they don't mind commuters but don't like those that put on the lycra and go for long mindless rides. I do both and always wear lycra, so by definition I'm both ok and disliked at the same time. How do you know which ride I am on when you see me?

    Food for thought.

For that to be the thing you're focusing on speaks volumes about your attitude towards vulnerable road users.

Personally I think that the "I've got it all on camera" was just a quick way of saying "Don't pretend this didn't happen then try and walk away from the scene of an accident else you'll end up looking like a right turkey when this goes on the internet." As it was the guy decided to ignore the incident, left the scene of the accident and ended up looking like a right turkey on the internet.
