Passed this odd looking vehicle on the side of the road coming back from Lithgow, figured I'd do the decent thing and check to see if there was anyone in the vehicle and if they were okay....
No-one in the vehicle, so I investigated further....
That's the end of that drive!![]()
Looks like it happened at least 100m away judging by the gouge marks on the road, very lucky to be able to keep it oily side down as we say methinks.
Originally I thought they were changing the tyre and using the wheel under the car as a bit of extra safety....
happened to me in a wb panel van years ago top left ball joint failed.
Thats an interesting breakage, or major failure.
Wonder how the hell that happened?![]()
With that model Prado - doesn't surprise me. I had one the same model a few years back (work vehicle). Was driving across Lake Lefroy at Kambalda on the way home from work one afternoon when the rod that connects the two front wheels (dunno what it's called) let go. Ended up with two front wheels pointed in two very different directions - bloody near ended up in the lake.
Toyota dealer in Kalgoorlie told me that it was not unusual - they had the required parts in stock and vehicle was back on the road next day.
Oh what a feeling ........................![]()
Cheers .........

Yikes!
I'm not sure what scares me more about the clip below:
- the tyre coming off
- how long the dashcam car was on the wrong side of the road with zero visibility of the oncoming traffic
