    Time to waterproof the awning

The old canvas caravan awning is in need of water proofing.

I am looking out for a paint on long lasting type, for some reason I'm not keen on a silicon based product as I do not think they last very long.

Any advise on what brand works well and application tips?

    Driseal by Waproo.

It is a petroleum wax and lasts up to 10 years. I did mine 8 years ago and no leaks so seeing I was going on another 2 month trip I redid it.

I recently redid my camper trailer, and I sprayed it 50/50 with turps. It made it so much easier than brushing.

    Bradmill Duradux.

Looks like the name has changed to Bradproof

Have a look at Joseph Lyddy. I haven't used the canvas product which is non silicone but have used other products by them and they both did what they said they would do on the box.
At least one previous thread from here.

    Hmm,
I googled driseal and waproo and got this thread.

I couldn't find anything on Joseph Lyddy that was bigger than a tin of Waproo dubbin.

And Bradmill Duradux doesn't say whether it is silicon based or not.

Any hints where I can get a petroleum wax product from?

    Thank Philip,
You've got to love the internet.

The Joseph Lyddy website has waproo dubbin under its search for 'waterproofing', and the Horseland website has Joseph Lyddy Dry Seal on it.

I've used Nikwax products to waterproof knitted jumpers, shoes and boots, tents and flys, and a sleeping bag. The stuff leaves the fabric breathable, but waterproof. It's not cheap, but is in my opinion, very good. I got mine from hiking shops.
