The problem i see here is the de-value of the jaguar and land rover names even though they are talking up strict quality control. I mean it don't even sound right chery, jaguar, land rover, To me the brand name chery is not a by-word for well built I think of cheap, junk, crap, rubbish, ****box, when i think of jaguar i think performance and luxury and prestige with land/range rover the same with tough and adventure thrown in. Put it this way a Fender stratocaster made in the USA is worth a hell of a lot more than a Chinese one because the USA made ones sound better and are built better. No one wants a Chinese Fender so i don't think a Chinese range rover sounds that good either.

WHOA has Land Rover been sold again? I'd only just got used to the idea of an Indian made Landy & now the Chineese have got them. No friggin way. I've seen & worked on some of the abortions of vehicles being pumped out of that hole & they are unmittigated CRAP. Looks like I'll be staying with the mighty 2a a while longer. I'm devastated.

No, I think it is a JV between JLR and Chery for the Chinese market. JLR is still a Tata company and still designs and builds in the UK.

Their warranty and service record couldn't be any worse than what we have to try and live with.

Yep it'll be a joint venture with a local Chinese brand.
The Chinese govt is pretty clever in this regard - non Chinese car companies are not allowed manufacturing plants in China unless a joint venture is set up with a local Chinese auto brand.
So the joint venture factory will build Chery cars and JLR cars.

The clever bit from the Chinese govt tho is that the joint venture MUST design and build totally new and unique cars within a certain timeframe.
In essence its a case of "of course you can come here, build and sell your cars here, but you must employ a local car company to build them for you and then you have to show them how to design and build a new car of their own".

Expect to see some unique China only Jags and/or Landies in about 10 years

Problem with Australia being in the asia pacific region is that if its a global company, we get the chinese made stuff vs Europian made stuff of same company. Well at least its that way with some manufacturing companies that have plants in Asia and Europe.

I am still hearing things about companies pulling out of China because they just can't get the QC right. That stems from many different areas in the manufacturing process but the core problem is one of culture.

FWIW - This is purely for the domestic Chinese market.

Imported vehicles are subject to large import duty, which makes even the most basic of cars, a luxury item. Manufacturing the vehicles locally means they're exempt from import duty and therefore opens up a rather sizeable, new market.
