    A/C compressor

Anyone knoe of the A/C units that have been turned into a compressor as I have one fitted to the Stage 1 and it looks like it has a oil filter attached to it( thats what it looks like ).
Do these need to be service at all and if they do what is the servicing that it requires

As I understand it, the air con compressor is usually lubricated by the freon (or whatever it is they use these days) gas. In an instal such as yours there is no lubricant so it is important to blow some oil through periodically so nothing seizes up.

Not having any experience with one I can't tell you much else.

There are a few people on the forum with such setups. If you search under compressors you will track them down in threads talking about tyre inflation etc.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

    Lubricating the pump

If you are reffering to the brass and glass arrangement with what appears to be a petrol filter attached to it that is a self lubricating device as normally fitted to air tools to lubricate the moving parts, cheers Dennis

    Hi Adam
That looks like it may just be there to filter dust from the incoming air.You need to give it a squirt of oil from time to time, aircon units have refrigeration oil in the system, air tool oil would be fine.
Did you get an airline with the system,or is there a reciever tank in the system? If there is a reciever tank it should have a relief valve fitted. If there is no reciever tank and you didnt get the hose with the vehicle the tyre chuck needs to be free flowing, like the ones on cheap 12v compressors. If not your hose cant hold the air pressure generated and you will be blowing fittings off your hose.

Pretty sure there is a tank fitted under the passenger seat and there is a relif valve in the engine bay near a gauge

Landyandy can I use compressor oil is that the same as tool oil and can I just squirt it in the air intake tube????

i think the brass and glass thing is a self oiler [i dunno how the oil gets into it] and the plastic feul filter is to stop dirt and grit getting sucked in there.
air compressors are cheap from the wreckers. to that end i have been running this type of compressed air for over 10 years with no oiling. first compressor lasted 5 years [delco remy on a holden motor] and the current one was replaced last year after 4 ish years [some thing from a toyota celica] so with a little bit of light oil it should last a good while.
