i have a august 94 build tdi auto disco so there are some around.
there is some steel in the front of them and the allloy can oxidize in the wrong environment.
Hi folks, just been over on the ExplorOz forum and someone has just post a enquiry about a second hand 93 TD for $7500 and wanted to know if it was good value.
Someone else has replied asking if it was auto or manual and to check under the front guards for rust.
Please correct me if I'm wrong but they did not supply TDs with auto boxes until about 96-7 and as the guards are aluminium?
This posting is not important to me and as I am not that up to date on the subject, someone here might be able to help a potential LR newbie with better info.![]()
regards

Disco Tdi auto's were first available in the MA series ('95MY but made/sold in '94) with the 300Tdi engine. There was a car used by LRA for evaluation with a 200Tdi engine with an auto but I don't know where this car ended up. I last saw it around '93 or early '94.
Tdi manuals were first available in the JA series ('92MY).
The guards are aluminium, but the inner guards are steel I think.

Not sure on the box but oxidization can happen where the steel touches the aliminium.
Also look closly at the rear moon windows, in the roof section.
Very prone to rust around the seals.

Hi folks, not my area of expertise and thats why I put it to those I knew would be in a position to give some good advice. I’ll go back to the other site and relay the info. Always good to be able to help an LR user ( even a potential new one ).
Regards.
