I knew about the horses regarding pet meat.
The issue about the dogs make very angry indeed
Having said that, horses are very loyal as well and make a wonderful pet.
I remember back in 1953 in a big ranch in La Patagonia, Argentina, they used to kill wild horses to feed the pigs. The land there was very poor, impossible to plant pastures or crops.
They used to have 20000 Australian merinos in 50000 Ha. That was at maximum capacity and the thousands of wild horses were competing with the sheep for the native grasses.

This new ban in Colorado is being considered a big victory. That being said, greyhounds are still forced to race, legally, in other states. As of the time of this article, there are still eleven states with no bans of any kind in place, and seven of them have some form of operational dog racing tracks running.

There is a recent law in Florida that requires the reporting of any greyhound deaths. Thanks to this law, we now know that over the last few months in 2013, 74 greyhound deaths have occurred at 10 Florida tracks. If you do the math, you get roughly one death every three days. Just in the beginning of 2014, there have already been 18 deaths at these Florida race tracks.

Great start! Now for the rest of the world to follow suit. The poor dogs, it just breaks my heart to see and know what they are put through.

A great thing happening in Aus is pet stores are starting to refuse stocking puppies! This is good, it stops me from abusing any stores that do! They are trying to reduce the deaths for unwanted pets and to slow down the puppy farmers.

And for the horse racing, I couldn't agree more, hate the 'sport' and the abuse to the poor animals is just appalling.

Just shows you how important money is.

I don't know how you keep being able to work seeing so many of the individuals in these two industries. Must be heartbreaking, its a credit to you and your colleagues, keep up your good works.
