Mine Went OK
I had a 97 Disco TDi Auto for a few years. Towed a 1 tonne Camper van for quite a few thousand KM's with no problems at all. The Auto works well. Got a 2002 Disco TD5 Auto now and it is even better. The Torque of these little diesels holds top gear on most highway hills. Occasionally tow along beaches, so an auto is the only way to go when towing through sand and you need that quick gear change when the going starts to get tough. Just a thought as you may want to launch your boat on a sandy beach some time.

Thanks for all those replies...
Test drove a manual tdi300 on the weekend and it seemed to have heaps of power when underway, but was a bit sluggish down low...Unlike an Auto I drove last week that seemed to slingshot me forward when I hit the pedal...
The manual; is a 96 with 189k on it...looks great and only $15400....Too cheap ? or is that about right ??

I too used to own a 300tdi auto disco. Great car and like others have said, good combo, overcomes the lag, auto seems to be strong. There is one in the local rag here for 18990 with an auto. Its got 120,000ks
