Towing boat with Auto 2.5 disco

    Greetings all.
Am considering buying a '95 or '95 disco TDI to primarily use as a tow vehicle.
Have been told the Auto is a better choice...Is this true??or is it personal preference.
My fibreglass boat weighs around 700 kg.
    Travel about 1000k's a week.
    Look forward to soem replies..

If you are travelling 1000km's a week, then I would be getting the diesel no questions about it (depending on if you are paying for the fuel  ).

The weight should be OK, but i've no idea about wether an auto or manual is better. Some auto boxes don't like to tow heavy items, but in that respect I think that the auto in the Disco is up to the job.

    G'day

I had a Disco 300 TDI Auto and used to tow my Bayliner (1200kg) with no worries - obviously used to slow down quiet a bit on hills, but otherwise great tow vehicle.

The Disco 300 TDI Auto won tow car of the year and was the caravaners choice in the UK - still is, thats the reason they still pull good money (pardon the pun)!!!

    Just my thoughts

I actually agree with all of the above,
    they are hard to find,
the autos have NO problem towing,

and I'll add this little bit for "the usual suspects"

my manual say with coupled brakes BUB91 can tow 4000 kgs,,,,

not three and a half tonne,
    but 4

    isnt THAT interesting,,,,

Feller in the next street has a big Mustang sports cruiser that he tows behind a Paj.

Why you'd want to launch and retrieve a boat like that from a trailer is beyond me.
